Strawberries aren’t berries, but bananas are. But so are watermelons and avocados. How?

These are just a few of the esoteric thoughts trickling steadily through Jaden Smith’s head in this purposefully obtuse Vanity Fair video, which finds the 18-year-old actor unafraid to ask all the difficult questions, even if the answers elude him.

Wo dude. Lol Reminds me of Keano in Bill and teds bogus journey.

This is what that cult $cientology, too much herb and other drugs, and the cult of celebrity does to children of clams in that cult, and celebrities’ children.
Hermes
Hopefully he isn’t using “herb” or any other drug. We were science nerds, and sounded a lot like that at his age, so I don’t find this strange or indicative of anything else.

I have said before and say again his mother and father need their asses beat for not sending Jaden and his little sister Willow to school. Neither attended school and the behaviors of both shine thru loudly. My guess is both parents were afraid what their kids might say to the friends they were sure to meet (and clearly needed) while growing up.
Hermes
I actually think he’s quite brilliant. I don’t see as much of Willow. He will get his education when he is ready.
ErikO
They attended a “school” but it was a joke of a cult $cientologist school that Will and Jada donated lots of money to.

Would anyone give a rat’s ass about this kid if his father wasn’t Will Smith?
khan72
He sounds interesting and interested, he clearly has a good mind.
Hermes
I agree.

I am sorry to say that my mind was not ‘blown away’ by this young man reciting some tedious facts while looking totally spaced out. There is nothing here that indicates an interesting or particularly thoughtful personality. I am sure he is a perfectly nice young man but why are we supposed to be blown away? As dean089 pointed out – he gets this publicity because of who his parents are. The problem is that the children of the rich and famous are brought up to believe that they are somehow special just because they happen to be born into that particular family – much like the British royal family. Usually they are not special – just privileged. I hope that he does something extraordinary with his life that actually does blow us away.

I wonder what calculations he used regarding the part about jumping into a hole at the center of the earth and coming out the other end in forty-two minutes. A molten core lies at the center of the earth. There will be no escaping it and whatever your using to drill with will melt before it gets to the core itself, even a diamond studded drill. Once you hit that molten core with all the pressure built up around it that lava is going to come skyward, as in up. What you would have succeeded at doing is making your own volcano that will kill us all.
This little boy is crazy. End of story.
Hermes
Bob? It’s a theoretical construct – a thought experiment – by not understanding that… or appearing not to… I’m not sure what to even say. The boy made a thought experiment, discussed it – he is accurate in terms of acceleration and timing – it is a college level physics example often used – he was off by 12 seconds, but I hardly think that was your problem. He is reciting things that are either age appropriate or slightly advanced of his age – that we all talked about in STEM and other fields – and that are accurate – and you are effectively making fun of him for it– why exactly? Oh – and here is verification that he is 12 seconds off – but that it is a college level musing for smart kids: http://www.livescience.com/50312-how-long-to-fall-through-earth.html
Bob LaBlah
@Hermes. Granted, its a theory. But still. The earth is spherical but the land mass is what puts it on a twenty-three degree tilt. What that means is that no matter where in the top you start drilling if you do manage to get around the mantle the only thing you are going to hit at the bottom would be water. You see, Antarctica and the North Pole don’t exactly sit directly below one another regardless of popular belief. And even they did you have a thing called wind velocity that will fill the hole with near hurricane for winds thanks to that thing we call air that we breathe and the other thing called centrifugal force. This is a theory that will never be proven but hey, if this little plucked chicken has convinced you and others that such a thing is possible then I guess it must be possible.
Jack Meoff
The whole thing just made him sound vacuous and quite frankly sounded like the kind of crap grad students sit around and say when they are trying to sound deep and esoteric while smoking weed and sucking on a long neck.
Hermes
I don’t think he sounds vacuous at all. He sounds very much like we all did at that age (or at least all of us who were science nerds) – he is musing about things that make sense and in some cases using examples normally used in college level science courses. I think somehow that you all expect far more from him than should be expected and he is already giving far more than most kids that age give… so… my two cents worth.
Bob LaBlah
This is also what NASA scientist do when they need budget increases. Notice how they always announce “possible” earths being found but offer no proof that it really is? A lot of things are possible but where is the proof?
o.codone
No. No “it” factor here. Nothing to see, move along.
crowebobby
He’s blowing the wrong part of me. Pretty boy; I just hope he’s taking the piss (as the Brits say) and not seriously trying to prove he’s intelligent.

Yeah…blowing smoke up my ass. What a douche.

All the hateful comments are unfortunate considering he isn’t out there bashing gays and transgenders on his social media accounts and punching fans in the face while shouting homophobic slurs. He’s also a beautiful young man. Too young for my taste but beautiful nonetheless. Why are gay men so bitchy about everything and everyone?
Ksb1978
As soon as I saw the story would be about Jayden Smith I knew the comments would be negative and y’all didn’t disappoint. If Jayden had blonde or brown hair with blue or green eyes and, you all would be “He’s just like me when I was young” or you all wouldn’t care what he says you would be too busy praising his looks. Let Steve Grand say the same thing and you all would be swooning and saying how philosophical he is.
