On Friday presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich swung through Olympia, WA, for a meeting with Republican legislators. And while the subject of Washington’s recent passing of marriage-equality legislation came up, Gingrich held back from calling the Evergreen State Sodom and Gomorrah on the Pacific.
“I think at least they’re doing it the right way, which is going through voters, giving them a chance to vote and not having a handful of judges arbitrarily impose their will,” Gingrich said.
Opponents of marriage equality have promised to bring the issue to a public referendum in the state, but they’ll need more than 120,000 valid signatures by June 6 to put it on the November ballot.
Gingrich’s response is at least somewhat tolerable compared to his GOP opponent Rick Santorum, who called the passage of same-sex marriage in Washington “a sad day.”
How about we take this to the next level?

God forbid the judges to impose their will everyone. That’s what we have religion for.

Who cares? Gingrich is a nasty, womanizing pig. A pox on his house and I hope Calista’s Jiffy-Pop hair collapses.
NoBama
Really, Queerty? Gingrich agrees with the passing of same-sex marriage . . . and yet you’re still trying to paint him as an enemy. Did he trash us? No. Did he bemoan the passing of this law? No. So, Dan Avery, what’s your beef? Why post an article saying Gingrich is “slightly less obnoxious than Santorum” when Gingrich praised the passing of the law?
For the life of me, I still cannot fathom why you people fawn all over Obama—who does not like us, period—and go out of your way to demonize a man who’s happy with our success. (I’m beginning to understand why most of my friends have always been straight).
Right Is Right
@christopher di spirito: Weren’t Clinton and JFK “nasty, womanizing pigs” as well? Or do they get a pass because they were Democrats?
GreatGatsby2011
“Judges arbitrarily impose their will.” Right. Because ensuring that legislation is allowable under the US Constitution is “arbitrary”. Could somebody please be a dear and get Mr. Gingrich a high school civics book and direct him the section entitled “Check and Balances”?

@Right Is Right: Nice try. You’re off-topic. Try again.

@NoBama: Gingrinch agrees with same-sex marriage? apparently you haven’t read anything about him–other than this one article–not since he was House Speaker, anyhow
Newt waxes poetic ad nauseum on the “sanctity of marriage,” and he should! after all, he’s done it three times. had his first wife’s divorce papers served while she was bedridden with cancer. gives dating tips like: always get a backseat blow job ’cause it gives you deniability. then spews his old-fashioned family-values gentleman bullshit.
but his candidacy will fizzle whether or not he wins Georgia (won’t help even if he wins, ’cause it’s the only state he’s expected to pick up). has-been, soon-to-be “whatever happened to?”
named after a lizard. if remembered, it’ll be primarily for his incompetence having reawakening a moribund Clinton presidency.

@christopher di spirito: Hey, can’t blame me for trying.
NoBama
@cwm: Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like Gingrich. I don’t care for any of the republican candidates. I’m just amazed this website is so shallow that they’ll slander someone over a non-story like this.
stoopid louie
i may be stoopid, but…….
this don’t matter, cuz he won’t get nominated

Noun: The action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person’s reputation.
Gingrich is not “for” same-sex marriage. He is opposed to it.
christopher di spirito
@Right Is Right: I don’t blame you but seriously.
Gingrich is a fucking douchebag. Even a rightie must agree, no responsible member of the U.S. House of Representatives shuts down the government because he didn’t get a good seat on Air Force One.
Gingrich should have flown commercial. Tie his fat ass to the back of a Southwest 737.
Right Is Right
@christopher di spirito: Agreed. He’s wasting our time and his money by staying in the race. Be gone already, Newt.

They keep passing the buck. They used to tell us we had to go through the state legislatures to be granted equal rights, now it’s the voters?
What will all the bigots say when voters start overwhelmingly passing marriage equality?
christopher di spirito
A brokered Republican convention will be a freakshow for political junkies and this is precisely where I think the GOP is headed. What a ridiculous foursome they’re running.
Marc
@NoBama: Yep, I see why most of your friends are straight too. You hate gays. Have you or have you not been trapped in a cave for the past few years or even months? To even pretend that Newt Gingrich is an ally to the GLBT community is bordering on insanity. And where in that quote did you hear Newt Gingrich praise marriage equality? Please point out the passage; I’m not that old, but sometimes my eyes play tricks on me so I may have missed it. If you’re going to defend your conservative masters, at least defend them with facts or at the very least the same old party rhetoric not some ridiculous re-imagining of Gingrich’s record and his past and current statements.
Steve
It is clear that Gingrich does not understand the Constitution, or worse, that he knows what it says but chooses to lie.
The “right way” to secure “equal protection” is, through the courts.

Something about Satan, no doubt. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/feb/22/context-santorum-satan/ has a speech Santorum made on the topic in general (although he doesn’t explicitly mention same-sex marriage). Then there’s Michelle Bachmann in 2004 also dragging in Satan: http://michael-in-norfolk.blogspot.com/2011/07/michele-bachmann-being-gay-is-part-of.html

B, when they lose at the ballot box they’ll quickly turn to the court. And somehow they won’t use the term “activist judges.”
Only with a completely unhinged lunatic like Santorum in the room can an uber-douche like Gingrich be considered “slightly less obnoxious.”

They may well use the term “activist judges” when they “turn to the court” and the court turns them around and points them to the door!
