Here’s a small experiment: go ask any gay guy in their 30s if they watched girls’ cartoon shows like She-Ra, My Little Pony or Jem and the Holograms. If they deny it, they’re just ashamed.
Girls’ cartoons were the guilty pleasure of every boy raised during the 1980s. In fact, Andre the black nerd has broken the man-code to celebrate a “cartoon coming out day” of sorts by sharing the five girls’ cartoons he secretly enjoyed most as a young boy.
But how about you? Did you secretly like Strawberry Shortcake or Rainbow Bright as a kid? Don’t worry, there’s no shame. Everyone accepts that your younger viewing preferences made you gay. The only person left to admit it to is yourself.

I watched everything in the 80s…boys and girls cartoons alike. I loved “Transformers” and “Thundercats” just as much as I loved “She-Ra” and “Jem” and still do. Not one was a guilty pleasure, though, and I proudly still own my various toys. I even bought all of these shows when they were finally released on DVD.

Another that I always loved was Rose Petal Place! I had the dolls that smelled like te flowers…and the evil Nastina and her sidekick Horrace! I miss the 80’s!
Not really, but...
I’m 36. I didn’t watch any of these cartoons EXCEPT Jem, but that was only because I’ve always been an ass-early riser and it came on at 6:30 or something in the mornings on some station I watched. So I just watched it. I also watched a now-defunct stock market show that came on right before it. That’s not to say I didn’t watch some doozies in the 80s: Shirt Tales and the Smurfs. But mostly it was Transformers, G I Joe, Thundercats, Spider-Man, Super Friends, Defenders of the Earth, Ghost Busters, Voltron… That stuff.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I’d watch Transformers, G I Joe, Thundercats, Spider-Man, Scooby doo, He-Man, Ghost Busters, TMNT, and I did see Jem when hanging out with my friend and his sister who wanted to watch it.
