Haringey had the third highest number of ceremonies out of eight north London boroughs, but it has now dropped to sixth – leading to calls for more innovative venue options… The Local Government Association revealed a drop in marriages across the UK of about 55 per cent during 2007, with Haringey falling from 94 ceremonies in 2006 to just 40.” [Hornsey Journal]

Maybe that’s because when the laws were first introduced allowing same-sex couples to marry, there was already a huge number of couples who would have gotten married years ago (had it been legal for them to do so), just waiting for the chance to get a legal marriage.
Now the same-sex marriages are occurring at a slower rate, because couples decide to get married for reasons other than the mere fact that they can, and maybe those other reasons take time to develop.
