Google Shows Solidarity For LGBTS At Sochi Winter Olympics

2014-winter-olympics-5710368030588928-hpGoogle goes for the gold with today’s homepage doodle, a rainbow-hued graphic that celebrates six different sports to mark the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Beneath the pro-LGBT image is an excerpt from the International Olympics Committee charter that reads “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

If you click the image, a search page for the Olympics charter automatically opens and the search engine’s logo becomes a rainbow flag.

Well-played, Google.

    Thank you, Google!

  • BlackHouston

Google is on point. Shout out to their PR and design team for being able to keep a pulse on society and pull out tastefully apolitical homages in the right amount of dosage. Google started this month doing ‘corporate style’ black history month right and it seems like the Sochi tribute was lovely too. Kudos google.

  • jimbryant

Oh, please, can’t you see that Google is exploiting you? A few rainbow colors and suddenly we’re fighting for your rights, right? Pathetic.

Keep in mind this really important point: Google will be making a lot of money from searches related to the Sochi Games. It will make a mint. Therefore, it could be said that Google will benefit from the fact that the Winter Games are being held in a homophobic country.

Google is exploiting the gay community and is laughing all the way to the bank.

  • Icebloo

Silly, uneducated gays. Google is a member of the right wing forum called ALEC. Google along with some other multi national companies finance ALEC. ALEC develops extreme right wing policies for the right of the Republican party including many anti gay policies. Google is using it’s money and it’s power against us.

Don’t be sucked in by the sparkly objects on display that are placed there to distract you – do some research about how these companies behave behind the scenes.

ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS ! Google is an EVIL and dishonest company.

I did not watch one second of the Communist games in China, including ceremonies, and I won’t watch one second of the Fascist games of Russia. What else can I do?

  • Wingfield

I get that every comment is a good comment for queerty but I really wish they would ban jim. Same boring arguments in every thread. We are all entitled to our opinions but trolls need to stay under their bridges.

  • litper

Ban jim and all his right wing fake accounts!

  • litper

Ban jim and all his right wing fake accounts!!!

  • TerrenM

I completely agree to ban this douche-tard Jim. He lives in the basement underneath his mother’s room; however, Queerty would NEVER ban him. Too many people click on links to just view the comments. I do, however, believe he tears our community apart rather than bringing us together. Any super smart IT guys on here that can trace his IP address so we can bring the torches to his mom’s casa?

  • hephaestion

    Hmmmm… Is AltaVista still around???

  • gollygeegaygoy

Obviously the support gay people receive really upsets an insecure troll like Jim Bryant. He’s on every thread spreading his misery.
Jim, deal with your own insecurities, and stop projecting them on us.

  • Mel

Bitch about Olympics in Brazil. Gay friendly but not very “safe” country. Cops totally corrupt. A few nice bits surrounded by shanty towns.

Campaign to boycott World Cup in Qatar – where they EXECUTE gay people!!

    Queerty Editor,

I’ve had enough. jimbryant constantly writes derogatory comments about gay, blacks and women. And now he has posted this:

“One of the posters above made the interesting point that gay men are so easily influenced by sparkling colors. Think about it. It’s a metaphor for our gullibility as a community.

If Hitler were to come along dressed in a rainbow uniform, many of you would nominate him for Man Of The Year, of that I have no doubt.”

Jimbryant has gone too far this time. As you are probably aware, Adolf Hitler not only made gays and lesbians wear pink triangles in order to make them identifiable, he murdered them. Thousands and thousands of them. Oh and he murdered 6 million Jewish people too.

If you have any respect for them, and I suspect you do, you will ban jimbryant from posting his vile words.

Don’t let him convince you otherwise by invoking the First Amendment. It’s the government that cannot ban comments like the one he wrote; you can.

In case you don’t appreciate the seriousness of what he spews, know that if I see one more of jimbryant comment beyond this weekend–even if he just posts the lyrics to “Mary Had A Little Lamb”–I will not visit your website anymore. And know that I can’t be the only offended by what jimbryant has written.

  • Ridpathos

Uh oh. Jim spewed again. Poor Jim. Look at this mess.

  • gollygeegaygoy

Jim, what do you consider as good gay rights activism ? All you do on the threads that I have seen is complain.

  • Tookietookie123

@jimbryant: So you’re judging our activism? Really?! Look at all you do, like they’ve said before, all you do is complain, not one ounce of activism, all you see is conspiracies and hate even when it’s good you think it’s bad. You’re what’s wrong with the gay community.

  • Stefano

@jimbryant : show us proof of what you are saying.

And respond to the question ask by gollygeegaygoy :

What do you consider as good gay right activism ? And in which gay right activism are you in?

  • Stefano

@jimbryant : And what do you do for gay rights?

  • Stefano

@ jimbryant : in which gay group activists are you in?

  • KDub

    It’s ugly. I’m offended.

  • DShucking

@samwise343: I agree with every bad thing that anyone could say about him but I’m against banning him. It’s up to us to deal with him and trolling is a way of life these days. He’s obviously been successful at it as even those weary of him are still responding. Ignore him. That’s our responsibility.

  • samwise343

I respect your opinion, dshucking, but I cannot share it. Many anti-gay people present bryant’s arguments but they are straight. Bryant claims that he is gay, so I have to believe that he is. And he’s a Judas to the gay community. And he’s totally fucking with Queerty’s agenda…the gay one. Oh and he’s a coward for never, ever backing up with proof for whatever he says. He makes statements that are logically unprovable or downright false. Queerty erased his comments but I don’t know if they completely erased his profile. We’ll see.

  • nandaric

@jimbryant: I’m not sure if you are aware but there are a significant number of high level Google executives who are a part of the GLBT community so no, the gay community is not being exploited by Google as they are a part of it and have been for quite some time. With all due respect, go fuck yourself.
