Igor Volsky from Think Progress watched the Republican debate last night while the rest of us were busy washing our hair, and managed to sum up all of the GOP opinions on marriage equality in a quick two minute video. It’s about what you’d expect, except that Utah Governor Jon Huntsman actually came out in support of civil unions and greater LGBT equality. Oddly, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum were both part of the debate which is cute seeing as both of their “campaigns” are basically over.

What is the GOP going to do if gays get full rights? They NEED bigotry to get their fringe voting. They have to hate somebody, but it’s harder to go after a legal minority. They may not be that fond of blacks but they aren’t going to create campaigns attacking them directly for example.
Guess that just leaves immigrants for them to attack if we get full rights.
Bob
The GOProud and Log Cabin Republicans will still vote for this ass-wipe Romney, even as he is throwing them under the bus. Obama has done nothing for us but at least he is not working against us. Too bad that the LGBT community has to settle for the lesser of the two evils.
tjr101
@Bob: Obama has done nothing for us? Right! DADT repeal, Hate Crimes Laws, Openly gay judicial appointments, recognition of LGBT pride, hospital visitations, more openly gay hires than both Clinton and Bush combined. There’s a lot more he can do and should but to say nothing was done is ridiculous. More progress on gay rights has been made the last two years than in the previous ten years. And it helps having a president that’s not fighting us. Obama is a lot more than the lesser of two evils.
That being said, there is absolutely no rational reason for a self-respecting gay person to vote for anyone on that stage with the exception of Jon Huntsman. And to say that they should be voted for because of fiscal/economic reasons is complete bullshit since all of them have been part of cause of this nation’s economic mess.
Little Kiwi
HILARIOUS!
Well, there we have it – the official “Hey America, Hate Gays? Vote GOP!” campaign. What a collection of fucking pathetic idiots.
Oh, and Fuck You, in advance, to all you white self-loathing gay homosexuals who are going to vote for one of them anyway. I know it’s only something you do in order to “not be like the other gays” so you can suck up to your GOP-voting parents (who, make no mistake, are ashamed of you and wish you weren’t gay).
So yeah. Anti-gay bigots vying to be the most anti-gay in the race. Shameful, but hey, the GOP sold their cred decades ago and exist solely to get votes from the scum of this country.

Why do I not believe Ms Bachman when whe says she won’t appoint “activist judges” if she is made President. Activism isn’t defined by whether you agree with them or not.

@Little Kiwi: Wait til Ricky Boy enters the race, then we’ll have a genuine anti-gay shindig. Yee Haw! Seriously though, I do find it disturbing that the candidates for a major political party are actually competing to see who can more extreme in their hatred and loathing for a particular minority group (that would be you, gays). I keep feeling like we’re living in Berlin in the early 30’s.

Please don’t give Jon Huntsman any credit for “civil unions.” That is so 2008! Furthermore he stated explicitly that civil unions are appropriate because gays ARE subordinate to hets so f that sad clown.
james_from_cambridge
Anyone else notice how unhappy Michelle Bachmann was when Chris Wallace asked her why her husband’s driver’s license says, under “sex”, “anal” instead of “male”?
And how dare that other reporter ask Michelle if she’s submissive to her husband like it says in the bible? Everyone knows Marcus is the bottom in that relationship!
Thankfully though, Marcus Bachmann didn’t respond when asked about all the fighting on stage in a post-debate interview. He just flung his arms about and walked away while screaming “Draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaama!”
Thank you and good night!!
Bob
@tjr101:
The repeal of DADT is more to the credit of the gay Republicans than Obama. They pushed this through while our ‘so called’ advocate president did little or nothing. What happened to repeal of DOMA? Why did Obama spit in the faces of the LGBT community from day one, by having Rick Warren deliver the inauguration prayer? Hospital visitations and a few judges…wow, throw us a crumb! In my opinion, he has done basically nothing though I will still vote for him because I still say “he is the lesser of two evils”.
Little Kiwi
It’s willful ignorance to claim that the repeal of DADT was predominantly the work of “gay republicans.’
Do you know what America’s biggest problem is? People who were clearly not ever taught the difference between Opinions and FACTS.
I get it – you have chosen an anti-Obama stance and want to hold onto it, but to claim the “gay Republicans” are the ones responsible for the DADT repeal is to ignore facts. Sorry.
james_from_cambridge
@Bob: You’re an idiot and a liar. The Democratic super-majority passed DADT with only two Republican votes, out of forty, in the Senate and almost no Republican votes in the House. As usual, truth is a casualty of the self-hatred you Gay Ol’ Party shit-stains wallow in…and by the way, people like “Bob” and “queer shitmacist” are part of an organized effort to infilitrate Gay & Lesbian and left-leaning sites to undermine the equality arguments of the Left. Read about it here…
http://www.redstate.com/davenj1/2011/05/15/weakening-the-democratic-base-part-5-liberal-netroots/
“First, infiltrate the site. For this, you will have to avoid creating screen names like “GoPalinGo” or “Heartlandredstater.” Also, some websites may actually have you wait a week before you are allowed to comment or blog. Perhaps, they are investigating the e-mail address you give them against whether it is used for a conservative website. Be sure to avoid that tendency; if you use, for example, aol.com screen name for RedState, make sure you use a yahoo e-mail address for Dailykos, or whatever. Once you are there, the second part of the strategy is to gain their trust. For this, you cannot be too overtly gung-ho conservative in your outlook. Instead, you sort of have to be the voice of a moderate liberal. This will take a lot of acting skill, but it could be done. For example, over at ThinkProgress, they had an article about how the folks in Alabama got what they deserved with the recent spate of tornadoes because their legislators did not believe in global warming. It took all my energies not to reach through the Internet and strangle these kooks, but I responded, “Well, that might be going a little too far…” Along the way, I gained the trust of certain posters on that thread.
The third step is to move the conversation in the direction you desire. By doing this, you can then form the debate in terms you can win. For example, in the above story, although I said they were going too far in their comments, I moved the conversation somewhat by questioning whether the folks in Alabama would accept Federal funds to rebuild their lives. In other words, the subject was changed from a debate on global warming to one of fiscal responsibility. Once there, you can then highjack the thread. In effect, you have changed the subject and tenor or the conversation and the writer of the original post has lost their ability to moderate the conversation and that creates a free-for-all that gets the conversation far off the original mark. Of course, you will be accused of “threadjacking” or, worse (drumrolls please…) being a “troll.” To this I say, of course you are a troll and you should be proud of it. Embrace your status of being a “troll” on the liberal website and carry it through to its logical conclusion. To put it bluntly: Embrace your inner troll. If they realize what is happening and accuse you of being a troll or such, or if they try to block you and your opinions, remind them of their support for the Fairness Doctrine and their reasoning for it- to ensure that both sides have a say- should allow you to have your say. Force them to practice what they preach.”
Little Kiwi
Well said, James.
The irony, of course – go to a GOProud site, or that appalling “gaypatriot.net” hate site and you’ll be blocked and banned for posting ANY “leftist” comments.
For real, though, America’s biggest issue is that people dont’ realize that you’re only entitled to your opinions, you’re not entitled to YOUR OWN FACTS. Guys like Bob have an “opinion” that can only be maintained by remaining ignorant of FACTS – thus, it’s a factually incorrect ‘opinion’ – facts negate it.
Yet still these people hold onto their proven-wrong stances. Why? Arrogance, insecurity, mediocre thought process.
Just because you have an opinion doesn’t mean it’s worth anything, or is even remotely valid.
Opinions VS Facts.
Wake UP, America.
james_from_cambridge
@Little Kiwi: Thank you. But America has always had it’s kooks and nutters and always will. We just need to keep them away from the levers of power and in Alabama where they belong.

Ron Paul’s answer is revealing. He said that no state today would return to enslaving black people, but the question he was asked was about current issues, and the fact is that most states are anti-gay rights. He pushes “less government involvement” as an answer but state government is the problem. Well, that and bigots like him whose personal opinion is that marriage is between a man and a woman.
ewe
Why would a president or presidenial candidate get to make such decisions? It makes no sense. I would rather have the Supreme Court rule on equality issues.

@james_from_cambridge:
First of all, it is laughable to think that I am a Republican! I am a life-long Liberal Democrat and if you took the time to read through both of my posts, you would see that even though I am not happy with Obama (basically a Republican himself), I will still support him over any of the Republican candidates. I merely stated that the gay Republicans were very instrumental in getting DADT repealed. I did not say that the Republican dominated congress was responsible for the repeal. Please read what I wrote before attacking me. Obama did nothing until he finally signed the bill (which we are still waiting to be enforced). It is a real shame that people on this site have to revert to name calling (calling me an idiot) and put-downs rather than a civil debate.
Robert in NYC
Bob, Ron Paul now believes the one man one woman marriage mantra and supports DOMA contrary to the Civil Libertarian platform. Obviously,he’s “devolved” on the issue so as not to upet the tea party scumbags. Why would any gay man or woman vote republican is beyond me when they’ve overwhelmingly supported discrimination against gay people, by a larger majority than the democrats. Which equality bills does the GOP plan on introducing if they win the White House next year? I’d like to know. I’m sick of all this economy nonsense they use to avoid the obvious. In the absence of the economic mess, they’d STILL vote against us, make no mistake about that. Look at their voting reoord on repeal of DADT alone compared to the democrats as well as DADT repeal and NONE of them will ever support passage of ENDA or sponsoring of binational same-sex couples while the democrats do.
tjr101, right on. Obama is far from perfect but I’d rather have a gay friendly democrat than a virulently vile republican who spews antigay venom at every provocation to get right wing extremists to vote for them, like the tea party scumbaggers who vote agains themsleves anyway, dumb bastards.

I’m voting for Michele Bachmann because no matter who wins, it’s going to be morning in America sometime. And, between eighty-five and ninety-eight per cent of us will lose regardless of who is president (not me, because I’m better than you and Jesus told me so). This is performance art, from inception (announcing your bid for president) to occupation of the white house after winning. We’re going in the wrong direction, and the only map’s been burned or lost or something, and other silly things people who have opinions about politics say. The winner of the ames straw poll is indicative of the winner of the straw poll. They’re kinda crazy stupid in Iowa. But then again, you’re kinda crazy stupid to care about any of this theater (republican vs. democrat, presidential election–doesn’t matter). Prepare to be bombarded with the same old tired rounds of vacuous rhetoric for not voting for obama, or voting for a third party or republican. Eating a shit sammich laced with cyanide (obama and the dems) is better than being brutally gang raped by a bunch of pozzer cons (any republican)! That is entirely contingent upon your fantasy life. “Self loathing homophobe!” That about covers the next year of tired, tedious pointless partisan gay blog (and, better educated and informed huffpo and politico comments–an insult to truly educated and informed people) comments.
The vast majority of queerty commenters are entirely ignorant of politics and current events. Why vote? You have NO understanding of the issues and candidates, and likely never will, so why bother? Because someone told you it’s important? It isn’t, and especially for you. Every vote doesn’t count, especially between a moderate republican (obama) and a right wing republican (rick perry).

Psst, Ganondorf and Queer Supremacist are the same person.

This sanctity of marriage/constitutional amendment crap is so shallow as a diversionary tactic to camoflage anti-gay biases and discrimination. If marriage is so sacred why don’t we have a constitutional amendment that prohibits divorce? If one man/one woman is the best/only environment for raising children then thousands+++ of children have been suffering for years not because of gay marriage but because straight couples divorce. Should the constitutional amendment prohibit single parents raising children too? If marriage is so sacred, let’s hit all the anti-marriage/family problems first, not the anti-gay rhetoric. I haven’t heard any politician speak against divorce. Hell, many of them are divorced themselves.
xander
A good rule in political debates: if you can’t talk about what matters most to the electorate (jobs, economy, wars), just hammer the social issues (LGBT equality, abortion, entitlement pgms).
So far, the Republicans aren’t offering anything of substance in the former area, and pure fluff in the latter.
Can we reliably hold out hope that Obama will do any better in his pre-election speechifying?

@njchuck: great post chuck ! your right. theyre either all divorced , on thier third or fourth marriages or sucking cokcs in back allys 🙂

@njchuck: It is definitely a good point. To play devil’s advocate, I believe these types did fight divorce decades ago. However, they lost that battle. And, like that one, I think that if they were truly honest with themselves, they’d know that they cannot win here either; only delay.
I think these groups do fight divorce but not on legal grounds, because they know they cannot win (even temporarily) on that turf. I think the best thing to draw from your point is that there are things in this world that are more harmful to the “institution of marriage” than two people of the same sex getting married could ever be (it isn’t harmful).
Ultimately, it is all a shell game. Once the religious right understands that they cannot win here and give up this fight, they’ll find something else to fight. Forever and ever, amen.

Yes!! “Queer Supremacist” and “ewe” are the SAME person as I have been saying for nearly two years. He also goes by “Ganondorf” and “Bill Perdue” and I believe “B”.

I’d suspected that ‘daez’ and ‘inoits2’ were the same, but don’t believe this way now. Both are rightwing, dim, and ill-informed.
Code Pink
@xander: Queer Supremacist,ewe and Ganondorf: due have commonlities. All have the same bitter and hostile personalities. And when one showes up, usually showes up. Offering support or saying the same thing, but in a different manner. But the same bitter undertones are there. And I’m not the only one who has noticed the similarities if you read other post above. And for some whe has such a big mouth and is so opinionunated, they have not tried to defened themselves.
Just like when they were busted over a year ago as being Bill Perdue and B, and back then, did not deney it and toned things down between their two alter egos. One will show up and then the other. And argue back and forth with themselves down to a whole page. I guess for attention? English syntax (grammatical arrangement) grammer, and their personality is embedded into their words.

Ganondorf is verbose, condescending, and never makes a point or bothers with facts. Very unappy fellow. I havent yet read enough Perdue or QSupremicist to tell much yet!

Queer Supremacist, exactly what will Ron Paul do for LGBT equality if he were ever elected, and I predict he won’t be. He’s recently renegged on DOMA and now supports it. What will any republican (Tea Party and Civil Libertarian scumbags are all republicans when push comes to shove) do for us if they get the White House? Name one thing, including any proposed legislation they plan to introduce? Name one piece they’ve they’ve sponsored or authored of their own volition in any of the states if they and their two offshoots are so better than the democrats? Look at repeal of DADT, just look at the numbers who opposed it in the GOP compared to the Democrats. The Log Cabiners did NOT bring about repeal of DADT alone, you’re delusional. The military itself played a huge part, Admiral Mullen to name one. During the lawsuit it brought in 2004, plaintiffs introduced admissions by none other than President OBAMA, i.e. that DADT “doesn’t contribute to our national security”, “weakens our national security”, and that reversal is “essential for our national security”. According to plaintiffs, these statements alone satisfied the burden of proof that DADT was unlawful. Do you really think a republican president would have signed off on that when the majority in the GOP opposed it? No way!

@Code Pink:
Defend oneself against what, exactly? False accusations? No one has even attempted to discuss any reasoning I’ve put forth on queerty. And there have been many arguments. This isn’t a blog to discuss and analyze arguments. Instead, it’s attack the person making the argument and make up as much stuff as you want about that person. I think it’s fun, and is the clearest indictment of not only the pointlessness of the people who comment here but the pointlessness of the blog itself.
I don’t think that queer supremacist is at all mentally unstable. He’s clearly aggravated, because let’s face it, most of you just aren’t intelligent enough to hold even a remotely rational conversation. I don’t think that he’s particularly bright, and I disagree with him, but compared to you folk, he’s a genius. I think that ewe does suffer from mental illness (as do a lot of you people–most queerty regulars do from my casual observation), and I think that most of the people who are making the pathology accusations don’t have the education or background to make those diagnoses, and are using to distract from their own manifest craziness. You, for example, don’t. I am going to get very personal with some of the commenters here about the things I know about their personal lives that are easily deduced from the manner in which they interact with others unguarded on this blog. And I will do it for my amusement.
Ganondorf
@xander:
You, for example, used to go by Jeffree. I believe that you’re overweight and extremely effeminate, and have a strong desire for validation and the spotlight (according to you, you were pursuing a stand up comedy career that obviously didn’t pan out). You think that talking about aspects of topics that are, to be blunt, side issues at best (and have no connection to the topics at all) somehow validates the impression that you’re insightful and intelligent instead of the palaver pusher. You never offer argument or reasoning, just beliefs cloaked in the vocabulary of a HS education and some college. You have a desire to be right even about trivial things and to be acknowledged by others for doing nothing–though in your mind, it’s never nothing, is it. These traits have alienated you from others, and will continue to. You’re an average gay male, though. You’ll never rise above your station, and many who introduce a normative dimension into your analysis would conclude that you don’t deserve to (obscurity and indifference best suits you). I wouldn’t, but many would.
Ganondorf
@james_from_cambridge:
You, the other hand, post on several different blogs using several different names. You have a tendency toward threats, crude insults and thuggish exchanges which is consistent with the persona you want desperately to project as being a hard man. You’re not hard man. You’re barely a man at all, and have been afraid of that your whole life. You consciously try to avoid embracing stereotypically gay femme behaviors, but the tendency is undeniable. You come from a broken home–perhaps kicked out at a young age and had to fight for yourself in the big bad world, huh. LOL! You’ve got a tremendous chip on your shoulder and are a long suffering douchebag who can barely contain his anger and jealousy toward others, using any excuse to lash out and condemn people for their perceived offenses against you. You’ve got an average IQ, and an above average anger problem. I wouldn’t call you mentally ill, though. Just not a good person or someone any well adjusted person would want to waste time with in the real world.

You “people” are pathetic. You have lost the arguments so you lapse into ad hominem attacks and outright paranoia. If I’m the same person as ewe, Ganondorf, or anyone who is not in lockstep agreement with you (especially the ludicrous accusation that I am the anti-semitic pro-terrorist Communist Bill Perdue, who accused you of what you’re accusing me of doing after he revealed his swastika to the world), then prove it. Since we’re all the same person, show us the one IP address they come from.
No wonder they call us “Friends of Dorothy”: because of all the straw man set up here. If you only had a brain…
You think you’re going to hurt me with your bullshit? Why should it when I know it’s not true?
@Bob: You’re not an idiot when you’re at least willing to give credit where credit is due. I still think you’re wrong to continue voting for Obama, because it will enable him to act the same way in his second term as he did in the first. Don’t waste your time with these psychos.
@Ganondorf: I am smarter than you believe I am, but saying anything intelligent here is casting pearls before swine. At least I’m not a xenophobe who considers humans beneath other animals. I read your idiotic “defense” of vegetarianism and now I can believe how Hitler was a vegetarian. However, you are right that it doesn’t take a lot to be smarter than the average Queerty poster and, for that matter, columnist. And I’m not voting for Bachmann. That you would says a lot about you.
@Robert in NYC: The only one talking about Ron Paul is you. I have never had any use for anti-semitic isolationists.

@David B: We couldn’t be worse than racists and homophobes if we tried. But james_from_the_booby_hatch, Henry, and Code Pinko are trying.
Not only are they accusing us of not being gay, if there’s more than one of us that disagrees with them, then by their strained logic they must be the same person.
Any bets on when this site shuts down again, hopefully for good this time? I’m just sticking around so I can piss on its grave.

@Henry: I don’t know what the hell your problem is and it’s just too damn bad for you that i don’t care.
