The Olympics may be over, but Gus Kenworthy is still looking to score.
The 26-year-old freestyle skier took a stab at writing his very own Craigslist “Missed Connections” personal ad aimed at at Ricky Martin and his husband Jwan Yosef this week.
Long story short: Gus and his boyfriend, Matt Wilkas, ran into the couple at the Oscars, where they had a lovely conversation. The dialogue was cut short, however, and now the boys are hoping to reconnect with the power couple.

In an Instagram post, Gus writes:

Us: We were wearing black Ralph Lauren tuxedos, mine had little cowboys on it. You: You were also both wearing tuxedos because… well, because it was the Oscar’s and everybody does. You and your husband stood out though. Partly because you’re both gorgeous but also because you’re literally @ricky_martin & @jwanyosef. The four of us chatted and laughed but then, sadly, got separated in the chaos of the Oscar’s. My bf and I searched for you both for the rest of the night but never found you again. In town for a week. Let’s connect.
An encounter may not be outside the realm of possibility either. In a recent interview with Vulture, Martin talked about his hope to see open relationships “normalized” in society.
Speaking of playing Versace’s lover Antonio D’Amico, Martin said:
I want to normalize relationships like this. It’s good for the world; it’s good for me as a gay man with kids. It’s important that we shed some light on power couples like this, even though he was quiet and behind the scenes and he was just there supporting his man for 15 years. I also believe there was a level of homophobia going around in his family where he was hiding, even though he says, “My relationship was very open and free with Gianni.” So I used that as well in front of the camera, and for that, I will always be very thankful.

Sad. Gus is spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to stay in the spotlight now that the Olympics are over. If he and his bf (who has been an actor for 20 years living in LA) wanted to meet Ricky and Jwan why not go through your publicist or agent? Dustin Lance Black and Tom Daley hardly need to have a baby to be in the spotlight. Especially Dustin. It would have been easier for him to just make another hit movie than to set this up.

Gus Kenworthy is an athlete and he does not already have the contacts in the Hollywood business. It is not surprising at all, or even indecent, he uses social media to try to connect again with Tom and Dustin, if they were suddenly separated during the ceremony. Then, it is up to Tom and Dustin to see if they want to reach them. I hope they do 🙂
Of course, Gus is also trying to give his fans something to watch and follow. It is all what the celebrity system is about.
Btw, Graham Gremore seems to suggest Ricky Martin is in an open relationship with his husband, but it is written nowhere in his interview. The writer plays with the ambiguity of the interview 😉
The most likely interpretation is that Martin just meant that powerful same-sex couples should be normalized, whether in an open/free relationship or not.

Mean jaded people. Yes they’re celebrities. They’re also young people who are trying to do something with their lives. There are far worse things than hooking up or heaven forbid entering into a non-sexual friendship that results in business opportunities or heck just meeting people whom one might become friends with. I see why some straight people see us as whackos who are self-obssessed and oversexualized. There’s some truth in it at least from some of the comments I’m seeing.

I do not undestand why Gus is even at the Oscars (Adam also) the Olympics are over and i didnt know that movies were an Olympic sport. He’s not relevant any longer but wants to stay in thenews. I find him pathetic along with his BF to air their personal lives on social media… stay home and enjoy each other. Ricky is a married father of two. He and his husband meet many attractive men all over the world. I don’t think Mr. Kenworthy would hold his attention longer than the original small talk that they exchanged. They belong and inhabit two different worlds altogether.
