Joe Dombrowski, an openly gay teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan, decided to treat his class to an early April Fool’s Day gag.
During an impromptu spelling quiz, Dombrowski decided to include completely made-up words, drawing in part from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Case in point: “Ro-laska-tox,” which left the class collectively scratching their heads, especially after he used it in a sentence:
“Ro-laska-tox were surprised when Jinkx took the crown. If you didn’t get the hypens, I’m sorry — you did not get the word.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Once his pupils are sufficiently mystified, he reveals it was all a delicious game; a romp; an April Fool’s gag.
Many students protested: “It’s not even April!”
“It’s close enough.”
“Is this going to be part of our grade?” asks another.
“Congratulations, turn in your test. This is going to be on your report card.”

As Unicorn Booty points out, this isn’t the first time Dombrowski has caused mischief in his classroom.
This Instagram vid features him using the lyrics to “I Saw the Sign” by Ace of Base to explain the context of the word “sign.”

All my teachers from 1st to 6th grade were women. That was standard in the 1970s.

And it’s 2017 Grandpa, men have been teaching since before Plato so what’s the point you’re trying to make? That back in ye olde times of the 1970s men weren’t teachers?

@rowa must not be able to read between the lines. I assumed this was elementary school too as I never had “spelling tests” in Jr High or High School…and male teachers were not *common* in elementary grades prior to the 80’s. I get your point.

I live next door to Royal Oak, an average small 1000 sq foot house goes for a 200,000. They supposedly have such great schools. I’d love to know what grade these kids are in that none of them caught on. Which reminds me of an interesting story, I was in 8th grade, the science teacher told us the Metric system was more accurate. I said “no it isn’t. My grandfather is a carpenter, 1/32 of an inch is exactly that. ” Amazingly she still argued with me for a bit and the class had a good laugh when she finally realized what I was saying.

I am a teacher of graduate and undergraduate students. Yesterday I was teaching undergrads about Queueing theory and had to read out loud the greek letter MU. I initially said the word with perfect pronunciation, and then I said that I would spell it like Brazilians always do (they say MOO) because the correct pronunciation was too gay. Everybody laughed.

My 5th grade teacher was particularly good at inserting hidden lessons into his plans now and again.
Our spelling test was on Friday-the-13th, and in the week leading up to that day we were all in a tizzy. The rumor mill working over-time (having been seeded by the teacher him self) had us all fearing the worse as only bad things happen on Friday-the-13th.
In the end, the spelling words, carefully chosen, were slightly *easier* that usual, and we all got the highest scores of the quarter on that day. That pretty much put to rest any fears about Friday-the-13th. And, by extension, other such myths. Most our fears are of our own making.

Wow! Such a hot guy! I never had such a handsome teacher and it is probably good that I didn’t as it was back in the 1950s when science knew little about us. I would have been naughty and have to stay after school! :>)

I don’t support this and I’m gay. Being gay is not that show and those words. Not all gays watch that show or support it. Gays need to stop using words like those. His a teacher and gay and should know better. Being gay is not being a drag queen. Teach them to be smart and to stay away from shows like those. Make future gay kids smart not stupid.
