McCormack’s statement is both endearing and ironic. Endearing because it’s funny to imagine him there in that situation and the fact he was able to look passed his own fears long enough to find out about these guys.
It’s ironic, however, because until the last season, his shock in discovering homothugs precisely reflects the version of gay NY that his former show embraced. Like Friends, Woody Allen movies, etc- finding people of color was an act in futility (even in the background).
