GROWING PAIN

Has-Been Sitcom Star Kirk Cameron Calls Gays “Destructive” In CNN Interview

Who’s the latest right-wing Fundamentalist nutbag to rail against the gays? None other than sitcom teen Mike Seaver!

Former Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron, who now makes his bucks with schlocky Christian disaster flicks like Left Behind, was on Piers Morgan Tonight on Friday. (Why? Who knows.) When Morgan asked him about marriage equality, Cameron said same-sex unions and homosexuality were “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

Cameron also claimed that “marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the Garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either.”

Has someone told Cameron that Adam and Eve were never officially married? Or the institution of marriage isn’t defined as being between one man and one woman anywhere in the Bible? And surely, as a Christian, he knows that most of the figures in the Old Testament had multiple wives (not to mention concubines and slaves).

Unsurprisingly, the aging teen idol’s comments incensed GLAAD. “In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character,” said Herndon Graddick, the media watchdog’s Senior Director of Programs.

“Cameron is out of step with a vast majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation… Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other—and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.”

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to write some slash-fiction featuring Mike and Boner in a hot-and-heavy flip-flop scene.
