You know, it was sad. We all got together, we had dinner. We kind of poured liquor out for our gay homies. It was a bummer… [The finale will be] a feature-length film that doesn’t adhere to an episodic structure. So I think a lot of fans who wanted a longer episode are going to get one long, two-hour episode. I think that will be [a] blessing in a lot of ways: We’ll get to close it out the way everyone wants to close it out, and then, hopefully, we’ll continue to be friends … supporting each other in future projects.”
— Actor Frankie J. Alvarez, who played tortured artist Agustín on both seasons of Looking, discussing the end of the series with Vulture

Yayyyyy!!!

Gods, even now that that snooze-fest has been cancelled, Queerty finds ways to make 20 posts a day about it…”Looking” is cancelled, boys…accept it, this denial phase can’t last forever…
johnnymarz
Stop trying to make Looking happen. It’s not going to happen!

@johnnymarz:
That’s so Fetch!

The real problem I had with Looking was that it was one of those shows that you could relate to only if you were living that kind of life… and frankly, if you weren’t, there was nothing compelling about it. It was groundbreaking in that it was about as ordinary a gay show as you could get… way too ordinary. It’s over… this isn’t one of those Community or Arrested Development situations where the fans will continue to save it each time it gets canceled or is on the bubble. Maybe they’ll take it to Logo… and officially ruin it lol!!
smuk94
? that serie 🙂
Salv Granada
solo cabe esperar que no hagan un “Happy ending” a todos los personajes, odio cuando hacen eso en las series

@Taskebab: You should ask for your money back!

I still don’t understand how people found this show uninteresting. It showed us as ordinary people and I could relate to it quite a bit. Shame it’s over.

I was happy to see Alvarez on “The Good Wife” on Sunday. I hope to see more of him.
MarionPaige
The Looking Production did it their way. In an era where audience feedback is instantaneous, Looking ignored the audience.
If the Looking production and the cast are so damn convinced of Looking’s artistic value, let them all put up their own money for a Looking DVD series or webseries.

Bring back DTLA

You are ordinary people cuz and don’t you forget it

Make it stop!

Lord knows how they’ll fill a two-hour wrap-up episode. There was barely enough juice left for another half-hour. Maybe the whole miserable lot of them will get together and go out with a suicide pact.
SportGuy
The show is dead because it sucked, stop trying to make it relevant! It never was and never will be, thats why the crap show got canceled, now let it die!

@MarionPaige: Agree 100 percent

Btw, cancellation has two L’s
KiDAciDic
@MarionPaige:
No, they didnt ignore the audience. After a first season of Augustine being the only complicated character they made him the fucking Saint Teresa in the second season based FAN FEEDBACK. Due to the fact that they initially didnt have “acceptable” representation from the fat bear community they added the fat bear in the second season; theres even a whole creator story about the bear at a con/screening that cried aboutit. You could probably find it on Queerty. After the new popularity of Prep and the lack of HIV subject matter they added those thanks again to you guessed it … fan feedback. They didnt create this turd in a vacuum. I think what they presented throughout this whole debacle was their overwhelming hubris and stubbornness to understand that its called the entertainment business for a reason.
Cam
@KiDAciDic: Augustin wasn’t “Complicated” during the first season, his storyline was not believable. His phony behavior was too over the top, and he was never anybody that other people would be friends with so that aspect didn’t work. When they recreated him, the same bad writers then went too far the other direction in their same ham handed way and again made it ridiculous and unbelievable.
Don’t blame the audience because looking hired some people straight off of anew online creative writing school.
Captain Obvious
When shows for everyone have better gay characters than shows for gay people in general you know there’s a problem.
Stop making somber, boring, and depressing gay shows… maybe someone will watch.
There are very few gay movies about hope and happy endings, it’s even lower with television shows. Considering we have campaigns talking about how much better it gets, how about showing how much better it could get, and show people something happy for once?!
Stop making shows like “Looking” with stereotypes trapped in gay ghettos and the miserable little characters who you think are more “realistic”. No one turns on the tv to see a documentary of how much their life will suck.
Do you think Empire is based on real life? Is Scandal? Stop with these terrible shows and try flexing some CREATIVE MUSCLE. Write a gay superhero, write a happy story of a gay couple who met in high school looking over their HAPPY life, write some science fiction starring a gay character, DO SOMETHING INTERESTING you self-absorbed boring idiots! No one cares to watch a show based on how miserable your real life was/is. Stop wasting ink on it. If you want a successful show/movie try writing something fantastical, hopeful, and full of romance. Otherwise, don’t let the door hit ya!
Beez3eez
@Captain Obvious:
Whoah. Not everyone has such fragile dispositions that they need all of their fantasies catered to. Or to be hit over the head trying to make some sort of point.
Nor do creators need to pander to every single demographic. That would result in an awful mess.
“There are very few gay movies about hope and happy endings”
Sure there are. Most of them are horrible.
I can tell you probably didn’t even watch the show. I didn’t find Looking “boring”, “depressing” or to be documentary like or whatever. Maybe you watched an episode and it didn’t live up to your apparently overblown expectations, again, whatever.
Rather than being hyper-critical and calling people “idiots” who absolutely do not deserve it, why don’t you go create your own super-“creative” gay sci-fi superhero show. -Just make sure not to read the online comments about it.
More Shows like LOOKING!
DavidTheLeo
I, for one, will miss Looking. The only problem I had with it was its half hour time limit. I’m looking forward to the final two hour show.
mulletkitty
@Xzamilio:
Logo only shows reruns of Roseanne, Bewitched, Golden Girls. Do they even offer any more original programming? Sad.
Bring back Rick and Steve!
njwolfman
I really like the show Looking I found it entertaining what failed was the show was only 30 min long when it should have been an hour. 30 min once a week isnt enough to build characters and strong store lines not with the subject matter .. its not a comedy. but rather good acting. Logo offers nothing original other then reruns and RuPaul. Sorry to see this show go.. it was worth the viewing
Latinoguy00
Does anyone at Queerty.com have any idea when, the actual Date of the Special wrap Air Date will be? That would be very useful information.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and here is mine. I have yet to see a better television series that focused on the lives of three main characters who represent the character’s lives as Gay Men so well written.
The GLBTQ community is so widely diverse, it would be an epic feat to capture our community in a manner that will please Each and everyone of us.
The fact that this series represented what some label as an ordinary depiction of a small part of the community rather than focus on , as some have commented , “Creative Muscle,” not based on reality of in the words of the one commenter, “boring lives.”
Well, everything is subjective. This was by far , in my opinion, the most well written , interesting , and wonderful Television Series, depicting a portion of Gay life. Thank You HBO for finally showing a side of the GLBTQ community That I will miss very much. Not everyone in our community requires Constant Drama. Again, if you Queerty have any idea how those of us who LOVED and are waiting for the special closing episode promised by HBO of Looking can find the Air Date of the final closing special episode. That information would be greatly appreciated.
