Geoff Kors’ Equality California says it needs three years to put together a reasonable effort to repeal Prop 8. But Rick Jacob’s Courage Campaign has made clear: Killing it in 2010 is worth a try, too. Enter the canvassing troops!
Some 46 “Courage Campaign County Equality Teams” will hit 23 counties across the state, says CC. (Yes, that leaves a full 35 counties un-canvassed.) But in order to get that far, they need, uh, volunteers. And so arrives this video, which can only be described as a recruiting message.
And if you’re good, you’ll get one of these fancy hats that Rick is wearing. Helps keeps the sun, and the hate, out of your eyes.

Not to offend anyone, but a question: on average, why are lesbians so fat?

I can’t watch vids on my computer, sadly, so all I can really do is comment on the title: Shame on you, Queerty. At least the Courage Campaign is TRYING. They’re doing SOMETHING, and trying to get organized to go and speak to people one by one to try to convince them that equality is something that we should all share; what have you done lately but sit there, making catty comments like so much of the gay community? The reason we lost the Prop 8 battle in the first place was because we were so completely unorganized. Plenty of people were out there saying “Um… where are the gays in this fight?” because they would see the mothers or grandmothers of gay couples saying “Please don’t take my grandchild’s right to get married away.” The Courage Campaign allows people to come face to face with an ally or LGBT individual and TALK to them, really TALK, out of context of a political rally or protest. That’s something. It’s a push in the right direction. Saying “here’s a chance to walk AIMLESSLY around CA neighborhoods” then commenting on the fact that they’re leaving 35 counties out (and probably for lack of volunteers because people like you imply it’s aimless anyway, so why bother?) is rather counterproductive, don’t you think? Next time, try saying something like “These guys need help! Let’s get organized!”

Okay. I’m done now.

This is exactly what we need to be doing. Everyone – especially those commenting on this blog about how we need to go back to the ballot in 2010 – should be out this weekend, volunteering.
This is where the rubber meets the road, people. If you’re not willing to do this, all your complaining about how we need to “fight for our rights” doesn’t mean shit.
Sam
You can also go to Maine and do it. That’s where I’ll be. Why let California have all the fun?

What’s with the dumbass headline?

@Hexx:
Thanks for your post. I agree with what you wrote. It really is a shame that the editors of Queerty are so jaded and negative. This blog could have real power to change our world; if only they focused on providing a means to make that change.
Most of the posts on here come off as hateful. As Hexx wrote, wouldn’t it be great if once in ahwile Queerty said, “These guys need help! Let’s get organized!” Or, maybe, “This politician needs to hear from us. Here’s her email”.

We need to support these brave volunteers, not mock them. I am really disappointed and angry with this headline. It is hard knocking on strangers’ doors for anything, let alone trying to change minds on marriage.

No. 5 · Rob Tisinai : re; headline, whole story.
The reason that people believe that the web may just just allow people to know the truth, since it’s clear that the networks etc are propaganda machines for the Right (who own them,.
The problem is not so much that the people in Queerty may have an opinion, but they propagandise with it instead of owning that it is theirs. So much of the resonse ends up figuring out just what ythe issue is if there really is one. Then someone may say something. But Queerty often relinqueshes it’s obligation to be truthful and straightforward. Boy does America need that.

This makes a lot more sense than Cleve’s “aimless” March in DC.

Let the courage campaign pretend they have 46 “teams” that go out every weekend. Go look at their event calendar sometime, you will see these so called “teams” are LUCKY to go out once per month. Some do nothing at all. Some do a phone bank every few weeks. Spend your time, energy, and your heart on something that matters. Maine needs us! And so do your local organizatoins, people are dying! Don’t line Mr Jacobs pockets any more. Demand full accounting of that $120k+ they collected!

Gee, now that we’ve lost California and Maine, it seems obvious that if Geoff Kors is in charge of anything we might as well give and save our time and money.
Down the road, I see Geoff Kors appointing himself to serve as a campo in one of the christian right’s gay concentration camps.
When will this egomaniac resign and let someone do the job who knows how to fight and win?
