“That sexual attraction came from, I mean, trial-and-error and a lot of practice. We have our struggles of course, like every marriage, but me being gay hasn’t been … the biggest issue in our marriage. It’s been communication, normal marriage things.” 25-year-old Skylar Sorensen, who self-identifies as gay, explaining his marriage to his wife, Amanda to the New York Post. Sylar and Amanda are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which forbids homosexuality.

Are they new PR machine from Mormon again ? It seems they always send new PR machine after the last one fails.

Handsome couple.

I feel like he came out JUST for the attention and to be able to accuse people of being “rude” to him when they voice opposition or expectations of failure. I agree with him that its nobody else’s business, but he kind of went out of his way to MAKE it other people’s business. He tweets out things like:
“If you’re expecting or even rooting for my marriage to fail to affirm your worldview:
First of all, rude.
Second of all, you’re going to be sorely disappointed” -Skyler Sorensen @_skyler_austin_
Yet he doesn’t mention the fact that in HIS “world view” same sex relationships are evil, sinful and will disqualify us from the next life. In HIS “world view”, his opposite sex relationship will continue on in the next life, our same sex relationships definitely won’t. Talk about expecting relationships to fail. RUDE! He’s an attention seeking hypocrite.

Every few years the Mormon Church pushes out a new couple that is supposedly happily married even though he is gay. The funny part is, they never go back and revisit these couples 5 years later, because they’re always divorced.
Off topic, in that picture they look like brother and sister which is even more disturbing.

Oh I read this book already. ***SPOILER ALERT*** he ends up with a dude and goes helium-heels for him. The end.

Seems a bit odd to knowingly enter into a mixed-orientation marriage. But at least she knew what she was getting before they married. Good luck!
Cam
She’s probably somewhat trapped into it. He came out to her, she went to the Bishop, the Bishop told her that a good and true woman can convince a gay man out of his sinfulness and if she couldn’t do that it is a strike against her not him.
They’ll make the situation worse, have a few kids before either she gets tired of him grimacing during sex or he falls in love with the cable guy.

Not sure why you’re appropriated my screen name. I’m guessing it’s massive self-loathing and insecurity.
Get your own damn identity.

@HDTex
Black Pagasus and Think Please had their screenames stolen by a right wing troll account.

Tony Kushner wrote about a marriage exactly like this in Angels in America nearly 30 years ago and it didn’t turn out too well. Are they going to have an open marriage, which is against Mormon rules, or is he going to live the rest of his life suppressing his sexual desires? What a nightmare!

Oh Yeah… I forgot about that! It was almost exactly this situation, right down to the Mormonism… The film adaptation is also great. Highly recommended viewing.

You should have started here, that’s explains everything.

Don’t worry, just keep wearing that magic underwear and you’ll get to have gay sex on the planet Kolob!

Aren’t these the people who are always yelling about the sacredness of marriage? Theirs seems like a business transaction.

There’s a lot more to orientation than sex and a lot more to relationship preferences and a fulfilling marriage than attractions and sex. But almost all of these public “Mormon mixed couples“ end in disaster. But whatever, it’s their lives. However, what does become annoying is the aiming for attention, being self-righteous with your religious beliefs and purposely positioning yourself as a victim. None of these couples are ever anywhere near the first of their kind, but they constantly present themselves as something special and an “example”.

“Do I wish that Skylar wasn’t gay? Yeah, sometimes,” Amanda said. “But I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else other than him.”
I’ll bet she wishes allot. I imagine Skylar is going to get real hungry for some c*ck. Not sure how they’re going to navigate the whole adultery thing when it happens. Kind of one of the big ones on the list of rules.

Now that all the Ex gay groups have shut down and all of their founders admitted they were scams and failures, here comes a paper owned by Rupert Murdoch, and the Mormon Church trying to restart the whole “Ex Gay” thing again.
Plain bigotry, nothing new here. Hopefully the New York Post rightfully gets the backlash it deserves for trying to restart the whole, bigoted attack on LGBTQ people.

So long as he’s been honest and upfront with her I don’t see how it’s anyone else’s concern.

Been there, done that. It was a big problem!

The whole point of queer rights was for us to be able to define our only families.
I was an out gay man when I married my female best friend more than 20 years ago. We’re very happy. It works for us. We are everything to each other except sex partners. Emotional monogamy and physical monogamy aren’t the same thing.
Everyone gets to define their own relationships. We don’t have let historical sexually repressed views on marriage define ours.
BuddyinCA
So, do you have sexual relations with men? Then, emotional relations with your wife? Sorry, I mean no disrespect. But, if you’re gay and married to a woman, you’re depriving each other of a partner who truly loves them in every way possible — including intimately. Sacrificing the wholeness of your being seems like the most selfish thing to do to your partner. and most importantly, to yourself.
Ryan99
@BuddyinCA Try googling “open marriage”. It works for lots of folks. The idea that your partner has to be the prince charming of fairy tales that checks 100% of all of your boxes is pretty toxic.
BuddyinCA
That’a why i asked if you have sex with other guys. I’m genuinely interested I’m trying to genuinely understand.

If they’re both happy, why not?
radiooutmike
I don’t think their marriage is going to be sustainable.
They do have a leg up in that they have their faith. And faith can often be used to sublimate sexual desire. Like everything organized religion does to enjoyable things.
Unless they are both asexual or one of the few people who can suppress their sexual desires, one of them will eventually cheat or just realize it’s not worth it. They better be smart enough not have children for at least 3-5 years.
