Gay film icon Sir Ian McKellen is about to be a part of another multi-gazillion-dollar movie franchise when the first Hobbit movie comes out. So what does he do? Record a video endorsing marriage equality in New Zealand.
An equal-marriage bill passed its first vote and is currently before a committee. According to Gandalf, “it will be a popular move, I know, and I’m glad your major political parties have embraced it, supported too by the younger generation who see things a lot more clearly than people of my age.”
McKellen, who missed The Hobbit‘s premiere in Wellington this week, also teased “I hope that by the time I get back to Middle Earth I might even be able to get married.”
