Homophobic Boxer Nominated For Personality of the Year Award

The BBC is facing serious backlash after short-listing antigay boxer Tyson Fury for the sports Personality of the Year Award.

Speaking to Mail On Sunday, the new WBO Heavyweight Champion recently compared homosexuality to pedophilia — before saying it’s one of three things that will lead to the apocalypse:

“There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home. One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other one’s pedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalized? When I say pedophiles can be made legal, that sounds like crazy talk doesn’t it? But back in the 50s and early 60s, for them first two to be made legal would have been looked on as a crazy man again.”

So there’s a taste of that “Personality” in action.

Shadow Cabinet minister Chris Bryant condemned the statement, warning that such comments lead to “young gay suicides.”

It’s only the latest offensive outburst from the boxer.

In 2013, he called Lennox Lewis and Klitschko “100% homosexual” and “homosexual” on Twitter.

He was subsequently fined £3,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Later this month, a public vote will ultimately decide who wins The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

Others on the shortlist include Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton, swimmer Adam Peaty and athletes Jessica Ennis-Hill, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford.

@gaymaniac: Is it Tyson without the beard?

  • AndYouWillDeal

He has every right to disagree/dislike gays and gay lifestyle.

  • sportsguy1983

The award is for his sporting accomplishment not for his political beliefs or intelligence.

@AndYouWillDeal: Just like you’re a bigoted shithead troll. Now if I said (jewish, black, Russian, whatever) people like you are all disgusting and sick and I was something of a celebrity then I would face justifiable consequences.

    See how that works?

Nearly 90-percent of boxers suffer a brain injury of some extent during
their career, according to the Association of Neurological Surgeons.

It’s not just enough that Tyson Fury is homophobic. He is also a chauvanist & a mysoginist.

His comments about fellow sports personality of the year contender Jessica Ennis-Hill, saying that she “Scrubs up well” and talk about his wife’s ‘job’ being ‘cooking, cleaning, kids’, not to mention the choices that she has are what to cook him for tea, sets back social evolution by 40 years. When asked about women in boxing, his answer was that he’s all for it, and he’s not sexist, but he does like it when they hold up the cards during the breaks in each round.

A lot of people have given him credit for speaking his mind. But each time he opens his gob, nothing but bile and hate come out.

Note the use of the word “Personality” in the title. All the other nominees to one extent or the other, have represented themselves as sporting ambassadors, lent themselves to raise charitable awareness, and basically presented themselves in the public eye as being socially responsible.

Tyson Fury, on the other hand, is using his gypsy background & religious upbringing as some sort of a shield to enable him to spout out this tripe. He’s not apologetic, he’s not remorseful, and he seems to think he is beyond criticism. He clearly doesn’t care about anything other than Tyson Fury. That cannot be any basis to consider him a worthy contender for sports personality of the year, or any sort of personality for that matter
