While New York City’s “I Love My Boo” campaign focuses on homophobia aimed at gay dating, Los Angeles’ “Raise a Child” effort is all about the kids. Created by the Pop Luck Club — an organization of gay fathers that grew from an informal gathering of daddies in 1998 to a network of 500-plus — the ad campaign features actual members and will attempt to destigmatize the idea of two men raising children. And the best part: The spots won’t be appearing in gayborhoods like West Hollywood, but in East Los Angeles and Orange County. We already know Heather has two mommies; now let’s hear about Jennifer having two daddies.

PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
You just know the rightwing lunatic nutbags heads are going to explode each time they see one of these ads. Because everyone knows it is so much better for kids to languish in the foster care system til they age out rather than be welcomed into a loving home………..

Why? Now when I drive out with my dad it’s gonna be awkward.

GO AHEAD! Vote Republican and join the Marines and move to the suburbs and join the PTA and change diapers! Just keep me out of it, dammit!
DR
@Pygar: no one is forcing you to vote Republican, join the Marines, move to the suburbs or adopt kids, change diapers, and join the PTA, but don’t take away the right to do so from those who wish to do so.

Many of these “gay” fathers are bisexual. They were able to use their bisexuality to procreate with women at one time but now, for whatever reason, are in relationships with men and raising their kids in the new relationships.

@Jason: What’s your point? Do you disagree with the ads?
The issue here is that same-sex couples are raising chiildren.
Your statement that the fathers “for whatever reason, are in relationships with men” is beyond comical. That you can’t imagine WHY they would be in relationships with men indicates just how far you’ve slipped in terms of reality-testing your hypotheses.
Here’s the answer: gay men are attrac.ted to men. That’s why they’re in relationships with men. Bi men are also attr.acted to men, so they too will engage in relationships with men.
Give my best wishes to your friend “Max Campbell.” Where has he been?

@Jason: Your information is incorrect: Of the more than 500 families in The Pop Luck Club, >95% of them had (and are still having) children within gay relationships. Years ago there was a group of gay fathers who had kids through previous heterosexual relationships, but that’s not the case with the PLC families. There are some with kids from previous marriages, but not very many.
And as for Pygar’s message, that’s also quite a laugh. Very few gay dads become Republican or join the Marines – though they’re welcome to do so if they’d like. We do, however, change diapers and join the PTA. In fact, we’re the ones who are working to make the schools eliminate bullying of LGBT (and all) kids, which by extension impacts our kids, whether they’re LGBT or not.
