Pastor Martin Ssempa, the Ugandan religious leader who’s spearheading civilian support of lawmaker David Bahati’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill, and is planning a “million man march”-style effort, booted up a Power Point presentation at a press conference in a “room was decorated with colourful anti-gay posters” and showed attendees “graphic images of gay sex as proof of the need for tough penalties against homosexuals.” His two sons were in attendance. Needless to say, “most of his audience walked out, some visibly disturbed, leaving him to wonder if he had done anything wrong. The cleric seemed genuinely rattled when he asked: ‘Why should I be traumatised?'” Yes, Ssempa, this debate is about your right to not be traumatized.
Fortunately for Ssempa, his gay porn was shown after he brought a one Paul Kagaba, and a one Sandrah Baggotte, to the front of the room, where they both confessed to having been cured of homosexuality.
UPDATE: More details on just what he showed the audience. A “pornographic slideshow of black and white photographs of men engaging in scatological fetishism is revealed” was put on the screen, where he claimed, “I’ve taken the time to research what homosexuals do in the privacy of their bedroom. It is inhuman, it is animalistic, and it cannot be right. I want to show you these pictures.” He continued:
I want to say homosexuals eat each other’s poop. Homosexuals stick their hands into their rectum. Homosexuals stick all sorts of deviant sexual things into their rectum. I want to show you this is from their website. So the first picture that I want to show you, you can see this man has just eaten the other person’s poo poo and is rubbing it on his mouth, and I’m going to ask that we print for each of you a photocopy of this story so you get it fully.
Then, of course, they are grabbing each other’s gentials, that is level number one, touching each other, grabbing each other. Then number three, now they are licking eachother’s anus and are licking poop. And they call poo poo, chocolate. You see it is a change of words. I want you to see, Sheikh please forgive me but I want these people to see, they say a picture is worth one thousand words. This is a man eating the other person’s poo poo, can you see that one? Please from BBC, I want you to tell them, we know what they do.
(Thanks, Andrew!)

Having said that, I have to wonder why the average White

Uh, Dirty Ole Man, and how much love have the “people of color inside the U.S.” shown to us? Not much. Gay people in Uganda are a legitimate concern here given the circumstances. Sucking cock is hardly the issue.
Way to totally ignore the point.

@Dirty Ole Man: Bexcause over a half billion dollars of our tax dollars are poured into that cesspool of a nation every year in foreign aid. And we tend to care about fellow Gays no matter where they are. And I 100% agree with Romeo, there are many people of color who spew poo and hatred towards the Gays who conviently seem to forget that less than 50 years ago they too were victims of laws which made them second class citizens. Everytime I see a prominent black leader lead the charge against Gay marriage I want to puke. Like for example that fat vile crunt Bernice King. You got a big pair to be condemning Ssempa when you come out with comments like

Oh, wait I know, it’s because your right to suck a cock

Man, in one sentence alone, you have managed to play the race card, quote the facts correctly and call us a bunch of “care-less” cock-suckers, in so many words
Firstly, if someone on these threads had used the term “black”, instead of “white” for their opening argument, they would have immediately been accused of racism.
Secondly, we are not talking about some archaic law in Uganda. We are talking about a law that has been introduced to the governing body of Uganda calling for the criminalization of gays and the instituting of capitol punishment for indulging in homosexual sex. Get a grip, Gretta!
Thirdly, sucking cock is not an exclusive activity of homosexuals. Heterosexuals females indulge in that sex-act, as well. No one challenges their right to suck cock. Nor, is a hetero man challenged about his right to be a carpet-muncher. You need to get over your sexual hang ups.
I don’t care to hear you pontificate about how
backwards they are – no matter how truthful the statements may
be.
Yes. The truth always hurts, doesn’t it? Obviously, it doesn’t seem to bother you in the least when these people call for the killing of your gay bretren though, does it? Where is the moral indignation and outrage about that?
The Gay Community at large are silent about issues that face people of color inside the U.S. So why are you concerned about
this issue?
The same case could be made for the black community.
Oh, wait. You can slam whites and gays with impunity, but my saying that will be construed by you as racism, won’t it?
jason
Why didn’t he show lesbian scenes from “straight” porn movies? As lesbianism is the female form of homosexuality, he should have illustrated his point with such scenes as well as the male ones.
Perhaps he’s one of these hypocrites who doesn’t classify “lesbians” as homosexual, especially if they serve the grubby masturbatory fantasies of straight guys.
Lukas P.
If American dollars — e.g. Our tax money — serves to prop up vile regimes, you BET we have a vested interest in where that cash goes and how it is used. Pastor Ssempa gets his ideas from our globetrotting fundies, because stamping out gayness is more important to them than feeding the poor and reforming the graft and corruption that fuels the Ugandan elite and their hateful ways.
All I can think of are the bumper stickers I saw on trucks in West Virginia and southern Indiana that read “Kill a Queer for Christ.”

I recall seeing a number of those bumper stickers on a trip out to San Diego in the late 70s.

I wonder what would happen to the driver of the vehicle, if the word black, Jew or Muslim were substituted?

“how much love have the “people of color inside the U.S.” shown to us? Not much.”
How well do you know the black community? I can tell you are referring to the black community as that seems to be the community to bash when it comes to white gays. Never mind hispanics, middle eastern americans, asian americans and the homophobia present in those communities as well has your straight counter parts who are doing all they can to keep ALL LGBT persons of all ethnicities, races and creeds? You do realize there are black gay people correct???
“there are many people of color who spew poo and hatred towards the Gays who conviently seem to forget that less than 50 years ago they too were victims of laws which made them second class citizens. Everytime I see a prominent black leader lead the charge against Gay marriage I want to puke. Like for example that fat vile crunt Bernice King. I, as a black gay person, agree that I think Ms. King is out of order for trying to use her father as an excuse to exercise hate against a minority group but how exactly do you know if her father were alive today that he would just automatically support LGBT rights??? You can throw out the example of Bayard Rustin however during the civil rights movement he himself placed the needs of race before the needs of sexuality in terms of equality. It is known, in the black community, that if a black person is gay but they are working towards a common goal with straight blacks that aspect about them will usually not play a factor, which may have been the case with Rustin. What you just wrote above is one of them many reasons why a lot of blacks don’t want to support LGBT rights. We know that even if we put our support behind a community, when those goals are achieved we will be left behind and go from being your allies to being “niggers” again. And it also alienates black gays like me, as if I’m not apart of the struggle for equal gay rights because I happen to be black. Do you realize I have been at rallies for gay rights, gay events, establishments, very open and honest about my sexuality, in FULL support for LGBT rights and have been called a nigger by white gays? To us, seeing entitled white men, never mind you’re gay, who feel like black people owe them something and just should throw their support behind you, is what blacks tends to loath, not as much your sexuality. And for your info many of the more prominent Civil Rights leaders of the 60s and 70s are very pro gay rights, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Julian Bond, etc. Please do the background research before you post such racist diatribe against blacks. I know my people and I can say with all honesty, you are very wrong about what you wrote above. Any black person who is wavering in their support for the LGBT community could just see what you wrote above and come to the conclusion that even though you are a discriminated minority as well, you are still apart of a larger racist white community that really doesn’t even care about blacks, you just want our support until you get what you want and when that happens blacks will get thrown under the bus. That’s what blacks don’t like, because we know it will happen. I’M GAY and BLACK and I fully support LGBT rights for ALL gays, not just black gays. But what do I know, to you and Roman I’m probably just another nigger…

But one of the larger issues that has been missing in this whole conversation is that how do you prove someone is glbt? What’s to stop some high school kid from accusing the person that turned he/she down of being gay or lesbian? How do you prove your innocence if you have been falsely accused? “Gay and Lesbian people have families and their families should have legal protections. A constitutional amendment banning gay marriage is a form of gay bashing and will do nothing at all to protect traditional marriage.” — Mrs. Coretta Scott King
Jack O’Dell, former Southern Christian Leadership Conference activist & aide to Dr. Martin Luther King states: “Dr. King would have fully supported Gay Marriage.”
…Coretta Scott King agreed.

@ I agree with you!
And what you are speaking is not verbiage, but the truth. Do people really believe that the mojority of straight whites support the rights of GLBT ?? Well they should check with Maine. Over 97 percent of the population of Maine is white, and they voted against a law for GLBT. In 2009.
And a statement was made,” Poll after pool shows the majority of Blacks are against gay marriage”. Strange, because during the last go-round in California, with Blacks accounting for between 6-9 percent of voters, they could not be responsible for the non-passage of prop-8.
And i’ll let you in on a dirty little seceret: poll after poll do show that the majority of gay bashings and MURDER or commited by White men. Ask the love ones of, Matthew Shepard, Harvey Milk, Billy Jack Gaither, Lawrence King, Steven Domer, Sten Singh, Brandon Tina/Tina Brandon, Ramon Navarro, Charles Howard, Barry Winchell:ect, ect. So given a choice of having someone be against my marriage vs me being bashed or murded, i’ll “gladly” take the first.

Lets TRY to judge people by the content of their character.

Much of what you say is true. However, this thread is about Pastor Ssempa generating support for the “Kill the gays” bill in Uganda, not a police blogtter about crimes against gays in America. They are two entirely different subject and by introducing these comments, you are de-railing the conversation and drawing attention away from the subject at hand.
Thus far, I have heard no one trying to generate support for a “kill the gays” bill in America.
I’m certain, however, that you will be the first to alert us when one is proposed by either the Catholics, Baptists, Mormons or Muslims here in America.

The Morning Starr ~Piping the Truth into your Brainballs is a curious news source. After I clicked the link you provided, I was quickly distracted by other tabloid-ish headlines:
RUSSIAN CANNIBALS EAT THEIR BROTHER [this story had no link to more credible source] http://www.themorningstarr.co.uk/2009/04/16/russian-cannibals-eat-their-brother/
THREE TRAMPS KILL AND EAT A MAN [this story DID have a link to a Russian news page – anyone read Russian?] http://www.themorningstarr.co.uk/2009/11/14/three-tramps-kill-and-eat-a-man/
LONELY CANNIBAL LOOKING FOR LOVE [a delightful tale out of India about a guy who thinks people are “delicious” and that he’s looking to reconnect with his community — also, no link to a specific news source] http://www.themorningstarr.co.uk/2009/07/20/lonely-cannibal-looking-for-love/
And it goes on and on and on. Not that I’m saying these stories are not true, just not one’s I’d ever use to make a point. The cannibalism thing in Uganda is documented, but supermarket tabloid sites like the Morning Starr add no weight to anyone’s case (and all the stories are oddly credited to Earl Morningstarr, who ever that is).
Reading all these comments gave me mixed emotions. Joy at No. 15 · Lukas P. for “raising” his mother right. Love that! Go Lukas! Some very profound insight there which probably went unnoticed in all the usual rabble.
And in the rabble rose the usual race squabbling I’ve become accustomed to here. I try to save the term “racist” for the most egregious offense, but I will say there is plenty of racial insensitivity spewed here from all directions.
This post was supposed to be about Uganda’s looming holocaust if this legislation sees the light of day. The diversions (eating babies, prompting the usual suspect to lob the wildly offensive term “savage”) and squabbles amongst ourselves over who’s the most racist are silly in the extreme. We’ve all got issues and biases, get over it and stick to the matter at hand.
It seems that this American fundie export to Uganda is doing its job very well. There is no need to fund an American version of the ‘kill the gays’ bill, because it seems we’re more than happy to kill each other.

Um dear I’m not the bigot here. That title is designated for you and you alone. I know exactly what you were referring to and that criticism lies solely on the black community. I am not a bigot because in my family almost every race, many religions, different sexualities and lifestyles. I do not, never have and never will judged anyone different than me. You know nothing about my life, family or friends, what organizations I work with, what boards I’ve served on or how I’ve helped the LGBT community with my funds and resources. It is ENTITLED white men such as yourself that get on my nerves. What have we done for you? What have you done for us? When the Jena 6 case occured did you lend your support to the black community when these young black men where put on trial for refusing to put up with more racial abuse? WHen in the last few weeks alone there have been at least 5 or 6 cases of black and latino gay men and women who were BRUTALLY murdered, did you lend your hand of support to the Black and Latino LGBT communities to sepak out against and stand up to homophobia displayed against us as well as yourselves. When migrant workers are fighting to stay and work in America just to feed their families, were you out on the front lines with them fighting for their right to live? If you can say yes to these I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, until then you sound like another entitled white gay man (or woman) who thinks that just because you’re gay and being descriminated by the establishment designed by your people, us colored folk are supposed to just jump behind you. It is not the main fact that you are gay that bothers folks so much. It is the fact that you feel these groups should just do what you want them to do because that is what you want yet when those communities need you you’re no where to be found.
I don’t need you telling me about my people and my history. My parents lived that. My mother, a biracial woman, lived growing up in a rural MS town with a white father and black mother who always had to remain armed in case Klans men felt the need to put bombs under their homes just because they were a mixed race family. My father was not allowed to take a school bus to school rather he hd to walk the two miles to and from school everyday just to get an education that was still sub par to his white neighbors. I get stopped by the police too many times to count just for driving a nice car, followed around in gay owned stores because the clerks think I’m iching to steal something, accused of carrying a weapon even though I don’t even own one, randomly stopped again by the police while I jog so they can do a random search of me, throwing me to the ground and dehumanizing me because all us blacks are criminals. Don’t you dare try to talk to me about being a bigot!
But you are about equality for everyone huh? The next time a cop stops me, throws me to the ground, calls me all types of names you’ll be right there to ask him to stop right? The next time a hispanic man is denied his due pay you’ll be there to fight for his rights to eat, right???
Our communities expect loyalty. If you expect us to fight for you we have to know that when we need you you’ll be there for us. WHat alot of white gays fail to realizes is that you can’t just come to us and say “I’m a minorty just like you so help me” an dthat’s it. When we look in our past and remember how our fathers were hung from trees, our mothers raped, our children torn from us and you weren’t there and there’s no guarantee you’ll be there in the future, we remember stuff like that. They act as if there are no LGBT persons of color. If they want to be racist about balcks and other people of color I will defend the other communities when necessary. I may be gay but I am still black and will not put up with bigotry or hatred of any kind, I don’t care what this thread was originally about.

2 cents, that rant might have gone over better if you’d had some violins. My, my, such drama. If you’d read a little history you’d know that gay people, white ones, did a great deal to help blacks in the civil rights movement. Dr. King is the only person who can speak for Dr. King. My father tries to speak for my deceased mother all the time now and I know half of the time he is more than likely wrong, and my father knew my mother very well. Mrs. King supported it yes, but you have to remember Dr King was a BAptists minister first and a community leader second, so she and all of his close advisors could have been wrong. Like I said, only that man can speak for himself, no one else. And the way Bayard Rustin was treated sort of shows where he might have stood on LGBT issues…

Ok, $0.02, then according to your convoluted logic, all Black American History professors must defer to White History professors on matters that deal with White Historical figures because pigmentation trumps knowledge.
Furthermore, Obama who was raised in a White household (because his Black father abandoned him as a child) who then later spent the better part of childhood with his White grandparents knows nothing about the concerns of the Black community because he did not grow up in it — unless, of course, pigmentation automatically confers life-experience.
No, $0.02, it is you who must spare us your ridiculous presumptions and get that “I hate Whitey” chip off your shoulder. Your stereotyping of White GLBTs is just as offensive as any kind racial profiling.
By the way, I grew up in a very racist family, but people change. The ensuing generations of my family gradually rejected that past, the “sins of the fathers” so to speak, and the following generations of my family also, like yours, became more racially blended. Attitudes and circumstances change. You got to have faith in that or nothing else matters.
I don’t know how old you are, but I was there in the 60s during the Civil Rights struggles. A growing majority of White people eventually came to supported Dr. King. If it were not so, then nothing would have changed. There never would have been a 1964 Civil Rights Act.

(Also, below is a link to an essay I had published about the first Black family who moved into my neighborhood when I was a small child; the racist reaction to it, and a comparison to the same kind of invidious discrimination my partner and I faced at the hands of bigots a few years later. When our children are raped by those who are already sick of Aids it is already an act of murder. I wonder why they are so mindful of their own lives. The pain of death which they feel is the same pain we feel for our children.

anyway death penatly in uganda has past for homosexuals.
christians have been going to africa to brainwash the africans into believe homosexuality is the biggest threat to them, wait i thought not having food water and developed infrastructure was. they won the christians one telling african churches that “homosexual men rape teenage boys all over america and destroy families”
homosexuality is not africa’s biggest problems poverty is. those priests are down right scum. holy shit i weep for my brothers who get accused of being gay, like a salem witch hunt.
