It’s not often anything of real substance comes to us from the floor of a state Capitol hearing, but when Minnesota Rep. Steve Simons (D) took the mic during a discussion on gay marriage we couldn’t help but prick our ears.
State Republicans are aiming for a 2012 vote to ban same-sex marriage in the state’s constitution, a move that is unfortunately gaining steam around the nation. Those favoring such bans based on religious principle would do good to listen to Simons, who asks, “How many more gay people does God have to create before we ask ourselves whether or not God actually wants them around?”
