After reading so many news about gay kids killing themselves, I really do not want to hear this guy´s stupidity. He personifies exactly what so many people think of us: that we are all vapid, shallow, narcissistic and obsessed only with the body and sex. There is a time for everything, but this is not the time for Davey Wavey. In our struggle for equality, decency and compassion, he comes across as an out-of-place and misguided relic that is more cringe-inducing that pride-inducing. Let us get serious. Enough of this.

@JoeyB: I agree with your point to an extent, but I believe that now, more than ever, we need to embrace everyone in the gay community, and that includes those who may be silly and overtly sexual (a-la Davey Wavey), as well as those who are more serious. Instead of shunning those who’s persona may encourage “what THEY think of us” (whoever “they” are), we need to be proud of who WE are, come together as a diverse community of LGBT individuals of all sorts of personalities, stand up for what we believe in, and embrace every single one of ourselves. We need more solidarity in our own community, not discrimination–or else we’re no better than the “they’s” out there.

3) HIV rates are increasing in our community in spite of 20 years of campaigns and AIDS funding
4) we are still getting kicked out of the military
5) we are being bashed, discriminated, loathed in towns and cities all over America.

You don’t know anything about me. What makes you think I cannot be silly? Or that maybe I am not overly sexual? The gay community is made up of many different people. We should never dismiss any of them. Instead of complaining about those you do not like how about focusing that on the real issues. Complete equality, education, and suicide prevention are the biggest needs right now. Worry about those who oppress you!
