Kids are heading back to school over the next few days, and it won’t be long before interim reviews and report cards are issued. Which got us thinking about you, the Queerty readers—who you are, what you like about the site and maybe what you’d like to change.
-Hankering for more Morning Goods or Party Haus photos?
-Want fewer travel or technology stories?
-Dying for juicier entertainment gossip or more probing political coverage?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Sound off in the 2011 Queerty Survey.
It’s fast and easy—just like us!
Cinesnatch
Your question at the end of the survey is a yes/no question, geniuses.
Mike in Asheville
Wow, what thought provoking questions! Almost as relevant as a Fox News survey such as: should the American flag be referred to as “Old Glory” or “Stars and Stripes”?
WillBFair
I’d like more political coverage, and maybe some gay history, and maybe some personal interest stories about queers doing good or interesting things.
One thing here that I really like is your headlines above each item. They’re witty and silly and snark and fun. I can’t think of a publication anywhere that has such fun with their news coverage.
RT
Keep thing the way they are except,
1) improve spelling.
2) no more inaccurate or extremely biased news title.
3) Stop senselessly bashing Lady Gaga in every post. The readers aren’t stupid. We will decide for ourselves who’s our allies and who’s not.
4) Whoever’s doing recap for gay tv shows, keep them coming.
JKB
You all are doing a good job. (I just thought I would offset some of the inevitable bitchy comments that will no doubt be coming.)

@Cinesnatch: Thanks for making it to the end of the survey, I fixed the question in your honor.

1. Fact-check and copy-edit, *please*. I’m a professional editor and it drives me Rick Santorum’s-nuts to see the typos and grammatical errors in Queerty sometimes. You guys are representing the queer community. Please don’t make us look illiterate.
2. Can we get some stuff that is more relevant to the entire LGBT community than male models, porn stars, and pride floats? I’m with WilLBFair, you guys need to bring in more gay history, the gay rights political front, and human interest stories.
3. Queerty is terrible about taking quotations out of context. (See current article about Philip Lahm.)
4. Can we get some more “gay science” articles? There have got to be a ton of studies out now about nature vs. nuture and other aspects of the biological and social origins of homosexuality that I think would be informative.
5. People are making adorable/heartstring-tugging/awesome-sauce pro-gay videos on Youtube these days. Can you throw some of those up?
6. Can we get more trans articles that aren’t about assault and murder? I mean, I’m aware transfolk are assaulted and sometimes murdered, but I know they’re out there curing cancer and shit too.
Still read this blog every day though, despite these minor nitpicks. Good job guys.
EdWoody
@Mav: I co-sign on everything you say. Especially the grammar and spelling. As a fellow professional writer/editor, it makes me want to commit murder to see the mangles and abominations of language that happen on this site.

I’d like to see a regular column where members of this site can write in and ask questions that would be researched and answered by a group of advisors Queerty would use. This might include media related issues–“What ever happened to whathisname after he played gay in that movie?” It would also include health questions, relationship questions, and history questions–“What did Harry Hay mean by “gay window of consciousness?”
You could put out a call to your readership to assemble a qualified team of advisors. In fact, I will be happy to put a notice for volunteers to work with you on our own site http://www.CompeteNetwork.com (“We are gay sports”) the way we have been doing to recruit new writers for the website http://www.Puckbuddys.com (for gay hockey fans).

@Scott Gatz: Thanks, but you’d honor me more by following the suggestions in this comments section.

I like the site…
However, this site seems to be much more tentative than it used to be. For instance. I just have this feeling that this current site would never have publicized the issues with Target preferring instead to just take HRC’s work for it that Target was great. It was only after pressure from blogs that HRC admitted that their scoring never took politicial donations into consideration, I also think the site would have been shy about the bigoted nature of not only the GOP but some of the foot dragging or hypocritical actions of some in the Democratic party as well.
There are enough sites out there that say nothing. Stay the course and keep up the bravery.

You’re my favorite gay site on the innertoobs!
Constructive criticisms:
Everyone needs an editor. Even Queerty.
The editing problems and steady stream of he-porn and mancandy articles undermine the credibility of a site that’s really more of a news aggregator. Why not split the site into Queerty News and Morning Goods?
From a technical and control perspective, there are too many server errors, too many spammers, and too many threadshitters running amok. Subscribe feature doesn’t work.
I miss the comment ratings and ability to post images.
Jess
The one thing that I want to see more of is posts relevant to lesbians and trans*people. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a single problem reading about gay men, and I read all the articles posted on queerty, but, being a lesbian, I would like to see more “lesbian oriented” posts (not less gay male oriented posts, just more lesbian ones). I’m not trans, but I am very interested in trans issues, and I’m not exactly cis-gendered myself, but that topic seems to be covered even less than lesbian issues.
Other than that, though, I love queerty.

Queerty needs more gay history, more political coverage, and less of those stupid sets of photos from parties. I know it is a fun assignment, but you have to cover our struggle for equality at least as frequently as the time you spend drinking.

Stop stealing other websites’ material. Your own original material is great, otherwise.

^ I second this. The headlines are one of my favorite parts of Queerty.

I am grateful for Queerty being in existence. Thank you. Maybe social happenings on a calendar in various places would be helpful to people. Something more than bars and baths though. I was thinking more in the areas of self help, activism and hobbies.

http://www.queerty.com/unc-student-quinn-matney-branded-by-late-night-attacker-who-gave-fucking-fag-a-taste-of-hell-20110412/ Queerty has to learn to update stories, like this one after it was revealed as a hoax. Be more responsible that way. Otherwise, I like this blog.
Elfen
I am embarrassed that I read queerty. The titles are terribly inaccurate and often insensitive (do NOT comment on the hotness of someone who’s been attacked for being gay). No one proofreads anything. The writing is terrible. I come here for some light amusement and always leave feeling disgusted with what I’ve read – and myself. I agree with many of the criticisms above.
skzip888
Keep up the snark. It doesn’t even have to be profound, just maintain that spark of indignation and irreverence. I’m sick to death of reading queer media that sounds like it was written by Kindergarten teachers.
ewe
@Elfen: well. You sound really harsh and worse you offer absolutely no solutions. Don’t you get that Queerty is asking for your feedback to better serve their audience? Bitchy bitch bitching and some more bitching back.
ewe
I say Queerty deserves an award for allowing people to say exactly what they want without censoring. They are without a doubt one if not the only blogs that practice journalistic integrity. So there you ugly hearted self hating motherfucking gay bastards. Lift us all up or you are part of the problem.
Bryan
Is there a way to filter out trolls? It’s been really bad lately.
zack
I think an easier way to shuffle through the pictures via phone(android) would be awesome! More articles about what’s happening in lgb cities.
Skeloric
I really hope they rein in those writers (such as Daniel Villarreal) on Queerty who continually assert opinions as fact rather than actually checking the facts.
I like to have a few facts in my news, otherwise I might as well be watching Fox News.
xtiaan
less “gay fluff” more real queers plz, this site just reenforces all the worst gay stereotypes
Ed
Fire Dan Villarreal. His pieces are atrocious. And he has the dubious distinction of being the gay blogger most widely cited by the anti-gay Religious Right in 2011. His appalling piece on gay “indoctrination” of kids even went international among the anti-gay Right, possibly bolstering the violent paranoia and fear over “recruiting” that is currently gripping Africa. It was a shameful episode and one which will taint Queerty so long as it continues to employ the completely unapologetic Villarreal.

Today is September 5, 2011. Does anyone know whether or not the Bummer has evolved yet?

What would really improve Queerty RIGHT NOW would be getting rid of that fucking surveymonkey pop up box that appears on every page.
chrissie riot
I like the feel of queerty. I think it has potential to be amazing. But…. A while ago there was mention of making queerty more inclusive but I haven’t seen much in the way of that, except a really poorly written editorial about lesbians and a few pieces here and there.
Where the dykes at? Where the trans*? Bis?
There’s more to the queer world than men and if you’re going to promise inclusion it should happen.
