Nothing like a sex scandal to get the day started!
Evangelical preacher Ted Haggard (pictured) of Colorado Springs has found himself in a bit of a sticky situation. The virulently anti-gay head of the massive New Life Church allegedly had a three-year relationship with a male prostitute. Terrible, no?
The hooker in question, Mike Jones, took his story to a local news station two months ago, but didn’t come out about the matter publicly until yesterday morning. He says:
People may look at me and think what I’ve done is immoral, but I think I had to do the moral thing in my mind and that is expose someone who is preaching one thing and doing the opposite behind everybody’s back.
That’s what we like: a street walker with a conscience.

Not surprisingly, Haggard denies having slept with Jones – or any man, in fact – and says this is just a political move aimed at tarnishing his homo-hating image. He is, however, having his church look into the matter. You know, because they’ll be entirely impartial.
Also, can we just say that while we don’t personally know Haggard, he sure does look gay.

I personally do not think this story is based in fact. Yes, almost ALL homo-hating preachers are closeted fags…however, the timing is too suspect for me. ie, the eve of an election and votes of gay marriage bans. Shame to the escort if it’s false. Death to Haggard if found true.

Reminds me of a pastor who was arrested a few months ago by an undercover male police officer when he was looking for a hustler and oral sex at 3;30 AM. He later told his flock who wanted to know why he was in a gay cruising area that he was “bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the gay commiunity.” Makes sense to me – That would make any holy man fall to his knees.

Which will get more play on conservative talk? John Kerry ( a known poor jokester) screwing up a joke and then apologizing too late (same day apologies only, please) or a conservative being accused of having a secret gay lifestyle (we all know that these are lies fabricated by far left liberals). Mark Foley will attest to that. The alcohol made him come on to young men, but fortunately he didn’t have to pay them to chat. What’s wrong with a little chat among friends? I can’t wait to hear where this story goes. Mr. Foley’s story will not be made clear til well after the election. I do believe it would be in the best interest of all mothers who feel that they need to vote Republican to atone for the birth of their gay sons to have a sincere talk with God and pay attention when He (She) tells them to love gays and Muslims, too (and, maybe ignore what mere humans are telling them is right and wrong).

This Mike Jones is a joke…he’s trying to break down a man with integrity, morals and strong character. Bring Ted all you’ve got…he’s stronger than that and we all know the truth. Both sides – Republican and Democrats – would bring out whatever arsenal to tip the scale in their favor on election day.
As a former conservative evangelical myself – I praise Mike Jones for his courage to face this storm. Todays evangelicals are so over-zealous, pompous and hypocritical … and changing politics fo their selfish gain.

I’m a straight woman, but I sense the sound of truth in Mike Jone’s voice and words. I hear the sound of lies from Haggard. So to me, Mike Jones, hustler or whatever he is, is beautiful.
I believe Jesus meant us to know that beauty and truth come from the humble, not the high and mighty. Haggard’s real sin isn’t adultery or having sex with another man. It’s the sin of ambition and vanity, to hang onto power through lies about his own life.
I also think it’s sick to have a years-long sexual “relationship” devoid of any trace of personal attachment, even friendship.

By the looks of Tony’s picture, he’s going to have to pay more than the $200 Haggard was dishing out, if he wants to get his pudgy hands on some man tentacle.
This reminds me of anti-Jewish gobbeltygook from Nazi Germany. In print, so far, most of the Christian evangelicals fall short of wanting gays to be exterminated, although concentration camps had been proposed years ago, for AIDS. It was in a evangelical conference at the Navigator’s in Colorado Springs, and it made it onto a secret transcript that made it onto the web, years ago, in the early years of the internet. Navigators is one of the 100 evangelical groups in Colorado Springs, and like most, they have a penchant for anti-gay propaganda, demonizing gays, organizing legislation against gays, etc. They didn’t propose gays be exterminated, just put in concentration camps.
Basically, some of these evangelical groups want to blame homosexuality on all the ills of society…destroying families, spreading disease, pre-marital pregnancy, drugs, hunger, poverty, crime, terrorism probably. I’ll have to do a search to see if they’ve come up with how 9/11 was caused by the sin of homosexuality. The towers were phallic and the terrorist’s manlust caused them to kill all those innocent people? I don’t know.
What about the sin of hipocrisy?
What about not being interested in the truth?
What about being true to oneself?
What about basic honesty and integrity?
What about living a lie?
Like Margie, I thought Jones conducted himself fairly well, just simply, and plainly. I’m sure he rehearsed and had some help in what to say.
Haggard’s statements are being written for him by an elite evangelical committee of some sort, I bet.

I feel like Ted Haggert did get involved with the gay prostitute. One question I want to know is “why did he resign and allowed himself to go to a restoration is he did not do the drugs or had an affair with the gay prostitute?” Another thing, with me being a proud african-american woman , I have many good gay friends that were men, and they will tell the truth about who they are sleeping with. Also, “why did he get rid of the meth?” I feel that he did not have any business of having any drugs in his possession. I am kind of angry with this because our christian leaders should be someone we can admire and trust, not someone that is leading us to the path of damation!!!!!! This allows us young people not to trust many christian leaders and to be careful about who we choose as our pastor.
