Paul Michalik, a gay 36-year-old hair stylist from Ft. Wayne in Indiana, is dead after a bloody beating rendered at a house party he attended with his partner Jerry Chambers , who was also beat up. Under arrest is Brian Paul Brothers, charged only with aggravated battery; police are investigating whether this was, as Michalik’s boyfriend says, a hate crime.

I hope his boyfriend is being sincere, or he’s leaving a bad taste in many people’s mouths; on the other hand, the psych’s right, if someone pushes you, you push back, you don’t beat them to death. The story can’t be as simple as the witness that wouldn’t go on camera stated; there was more behind it.

wait. so you beat someone to death and you only get charged with aggravated battery? Can someone illuminate me on this? That makes no sense. Whatsoever.
And if you can’t get someone to leave. You call the police. You don’t beat them to death or even start hitting them. Some friend.

@scott ny’er: @scott ny’er: I can provide some illumination… it’s Indiana, a horrible, horrible place to live. I can’t wait to get the hell out of here.

Even on the Indiana news website (origin of video link), Brian’s buddies are flooding the comment section, defending Brian’s actions while parasitically clicking “thumbs up” on all favored comments and “thumb down” on comments that put Brian in a bad light. These guys are unbelievable.

Northeast Indiana seems to be very non-agressive when it comes to charging people for murders. I can’t tell you how many times I see that a woman was raped or a child molested (all REALLY HEINOUS crimes) and the perp gets 40 yrs or so (as well he should).. However, it is the NORM to see someone accused of murder, etc to only receive 6 or 8 yrs… I dont get it, but it really is the norm out here.. It’s friggin’ crazy. 🙁
