Instead of Joining U.S. Army, John Richard Shannon Punched a ‘Faggot’ In The Face With His Arm Cast

Not content with merely screaming he “hates faggots” at fellow Hotel Biba bar patron in West Palm Beach, John Richard Shannon snuck back inside the bar after being kicked out so he could punch the guy in the face — with the cast on his arm. (Shannon told his victim he had the cast after “beating up a faggot,” according to the police report.) Turns out the guy he attacked isn’t gay, but the friends he was with are. Shannon is charged with aggravated battery, with the enhanced upgrade of “evidencing prejudice while committing offense,” and is being held until he can pay his $25k bond. Shannon admits to punching the guy and says he, uh, might have used a gay slur. Oh, this is the best part:

Shannon was supposed to enlist in the U.S. Army today. I’m sure he would’ve gotten along just fine with all those faggot soldiers.

NB: Florida, a state with hate crime laws specifically addressing sexual orientation, is also one of the first states to put homeless persons in a protected class. That law is now taking effect.
