It was the Obama administration’s idea to secure veto power for any new top-level domains, like .xxx and .gay, or even .coke and .cars, which are all decided by the international group ICANN. But the organization turned down the request, instead allowing sovereign governments to issue nonbinding “advice,” but nothing the organization would have to abide by. Viva la .gay!
