I’m not sure who I have more sympathy for: The men who have nowhere but a public swimming pool facility to find sex, or the conservative Christians surprised and appalled these things happen. But really, gents? If you can’t use the steam rooms during clothing optional days (which is everyday but Sunday at Islington’s Cally Pool) without cruising, you don’t deserve to be there. We went to a Russian steam room in chicago with str8 Ukranian friends. Women in one side of the bdg, men on the other. Didn’t see barely anyone under 65 except us & didn’t see anything other than a bunch of guys just hanging out & catching up with old friends. No hookin’ up going on what so ever. Very clean, relaxing time.
Bonus : I did relearn how to play checkers on a plastic board. But: I lost every time!

It’s still inappropriate behaviour, and it feeds into stereotypes about gay men being uncontrollable sex fiends. The internet exists. Bathhouses and motels exist. Good case for separate men/women steamrooms. A lot of places now have co-ed ones and it creates more problems than it solves. And I agree with the earlier post that children should not be in steamrooms.

As a resident of the area in question, I was intrigued to see how the world was reacting to what passes for “news”. As posters have pointed out, kids are banned from the sauna anyway. The clothing-optional rule misses the point — it’s those who are clothed who are most likely to have a go, as they have an easy way of hiding the evidence!
Sauna-users do indeed often show a bit of interest, but not responding generally works, as does a pointed comment in the case of persistence. This does tend to have an immediate and profound effect! In my experience, “mixed” sessions betray the truth — straight couples getting more than a bit friendly and NOT taking account of who might be about. You have to wonder what this person actually saw.
What I think is particularly interesting is the comments like “with online chatting..this doesn’t need to happen anymore…”. Why do we assume that everyone is chatting online? They’re not necessarily “closeted” or “married” — often just men who may or may not identify as gay and who can’t afford or don’t have access to the gay scene.
