In between experimenting with snorting prescription pills off a traffic sign, Marshall Gregson spent last night’s United States of Tara trying to figure out whether he was a 1 or 10 on The Scale of Gay. His friend says 5. He sister says 10 (or rather, an 11). But these are things we like to crowd-source. So, uh, you tell Marshall where he falls.

Sure once he becomes legal tender guys will discover that those with that body type are usually treated very well by the penis fairy………….

I’m figuring there is only a 0 or 5 or a 10. (Does he only like dick? 10, does he only like vagina? a 0, does he like them both? 5)

About a 6, but I personally identify with attracting to 1-2’s. I know, it’s a handicap, but then I’m in an LTR with a sweet yet hard-acting “tough guy” for 9 years, and you are not. Are you? We just fade into the background in clubs/bars to be sure, but then you knew that….C’est la vie.

He’s about a 5: the self-conscious gayness gives you away pretty easy. Sort of like the thinking, “I have to *ACT* masculine, deepen my voice, work out, talk sports, belch, intentionally scratch my crotch, while others watch, make a scene.” It cracks me up when people draw attention to themselves, trying to convince others they’re something they’re not, when they’re having a difficult time convincing themselves. Just go with the flow, polls on your “gayness” will drive you crazy!

Uh, can’t he just be Gay?

I really like Marshall as a character. He is the first gay character that I really connect with. I wouldn’t say I’m “flaming” or “flamboyant” (like Lionel), but I’m not what people perceive to be the polar opposite and only alternative of that either – “butch” or “macho-masculine”. I was always just kinda quiet and effeminate in the timid sense, like the way Marshall is. Notice that Lionel remarks that he doesn’t know where to put him on the “gay scale”. I feel like guys like Marshall don’t really fit in on a one-dimensional spectrum. Either way, really awesome character.
I like that he worries about being perceived as “too-gay”, and despite knowing all the taglines of being confident with yourself and your sexuality and not caring what other people think, I worry about it too.

Whatever number he is (I’d say a 6 or 7), Marshall is the kind of guy I like. Just quiet and sort of fem, but not like absurdly queeny. I think it’s really cute.
