Is Michael Lucas a Porn Marketing Genius?

michaellucasdoll

This is porn star Michael Lucas receiving a blowjob from, and then licking the invisible genitalia of, a plastic doll. Allow us to explain.

Posting this video is exactly what Lucas wanted us to do. It’s pure link bait, we know. And so does Lucas, who posted the video in full here (potentially NSFW). There’s no other reason to explain why he’s mimicking sex with a (quite frightening) child’s toy: He’s hoping to draw attention to his open casting call for “models.”

And it will probably work.

He might even consider this post on Queerty evidence that recording himself screwing around with 8-inch pieces of plastic that are not dildos is worth it just to grab attention.

And he’s probably right.

But let’s appreciate Lucas’ video for what it really is: Evidence that, despite what your personal thoughts about the Lucas Entertainment chief may be, he’s a smart guy. The porn industry is moving much faster and evolving much quicker than other media, and Lucas seems to understand the power of the web for marketing and sales more than his competition. While studios like Sean Cody, Blake Mason, English Lads, and Jake Cruise all traffic in adorable “amateur” guys, they are all also barely distinguishable from each other.

Michael Lucas’ adult fair, however, has its own unique scent. You can often tell a Lucas movie, promotion, or trailer just by the way it’s shot, without ever looking at the logo in the bottom corner. (It helps that Lucas himself stars in some of his studio’s own material.)

Hey may not be your favorite blogger. Nor your favorite porn star. But Michael Lucas knows what it takes to keep generating buzz in an over-saturated field — even if it means carpet munching a child’s toy.
