Editor Andrew Belonsky‘s recollection of a conversation with Mollygood editor Cord Jefferson:
Jefferson: Andrew, you’ve got to hear this girl, she’s incredible!
Belonsky: Okay.
[30 seconds later]
Belonsky: She’s bad.
Jefferson: What? Are you out of your mind? She’s only six!
Belonsky: Whatever. She’s not good.
Jefferson: You’re soulless.
Belonsky: Whatever.
[30 seconds later]
Jefferson: I can’t believe you don’t think she’s good, man.
Belonsky: Is that what counts as good is these days?

Your answer to the question lies in the comment of Mr. Bullshit himself. If you think he’s god then you’ll run out to buy her CD. If you think he’s then antichrist then you’ll think she’s awful. Either way for me, she was awful and I’m glad I took my insulin injection before I watched this.
Mimicry is not talent unless your talent is mimicry and that’s what you strive to be professionally.
Ugh!!!

Her voice is really very good, so she’s that much farther ahead than anyone else.
What she’ll need practice on is selling it in her body and performance, because the frightened 6 year-old look will only carry her so far.

Cord Jefferson is a douche bag.
As far as being able to spot talent; when mediocrity takes a dump, it lands on Cord Jefferson.

omg… she was adorable.
i mean, we all know in 10 years she’s going to be on her second abortion, coming down off crystal meth on her third run in rehab after crashing her car and leaving her best friend paralized from the waist down….
BUT AS OF NOW… she’s totally adorable, and i thought her voice was great.

Sorry but anyone who says the girl can’t sing is either deaf or an idiot or being pissy just for the sake of it. I can understand not liking her voice, or thinking she’s too sugary sweet, but trying to claim she’s not good is just pathetic.
cord
Resident “douche bag” here. This girl’s a doll! Also, nicely done noting how heavily represented “man” is in my lexicon.
dubwise
First off, she is 6 so…who cares. Second, was she brought up because of the “somewhere over the rainbow” song? Am I the only gay person that is tired of that song?
Paul Raposo
“Resident ‘douche bag’ here.”
You’re not a resident douchebag, Cord, more like occupant douchebag. Because when it comes to douchebaggery, you own it. Douche bag.

she’s cute and all, but technically she’s off to a bad start. . . .
6-year-old voices don’t have vibrato unless it’s manufactured, and that’s no way to learn to sing. And her pitched wandered all over the place. However, all of this can be fixed.
what’s neat is that, at 6, she’s candidly talking to the judges in front of a giant audience and cameras. by herself. in the middle of a stage.

There’s a difference between being good and having potential. Does this girl have the potential to become a Pop Idol contestant one day? Certainly. Is it entertaining to listen to her sing now? No. People are heartwarmed by her image the collective dream of her potential. Such purity! So aryan and angelic! If the sound of her voice was divorced from the illusion of her appearance, no one would care.

She was sort of good, but definitely not incredible or amazing. The one thing that did impress me was that she sang “Over The Rainbow” melancholy as it was originally intended and not all happy and sugary sweet like almost everyone else sings it nowadays.

I second cbd’s comment. Let the poor girl sing like a child for a while, at least.

I guess that my discontent lies in the basis of these shows in general. I don’t think that talent competitions (I guess that’s the appropriate name for these talent/idol/dance reality shows that keep popping up) should serve as a breeding ground to make someone into a star if they show a bit of potential. Is this girl good? Absolutely– and at only 6, she should start private coaching so that by the time she’s in (at least) Middle School she’ll be cutting her first single/On Broadway/Touring or something of the like. Yes, this girl has natural talent and I sure as Hell wish that I had as much raw talent as she has. I, obviously, didn’t see who else auditioned for this show, but I feel confident enough to wager that there were several other singers (and performers of other genres; jugglers, magicians, dancers, pianists and whatnot) who were older than her and at the same level of professinalism that she was at who didn’t make the cut because they weren’t “adorable” enough to hide their beginnier’s talent behind a cute smile.

shes good for a 6 year old. i cant access mollygood.com dammit cord! i need my fix.

Yeah but she lost in the finals to the snaggle toothed guy who sang the shit out of Nessun Dorma…yeah she’s cute and all but this guy deserved his win…

People say that she is not pitch prefect. Yes, she is I know that for a fact. She just has very little breath problems which can be improved on very easy. By the way high school and college choirs and even some advance singers have small problems with breath and they are taking voice lessons. This is her first public appearence so this is why I think this is the problem. Small breath problems are natural during your first time on stage. All she needs is more time on stage. Also, it is very hard to sing with no music background. You just do not like the song she sang because it is not your taste. But to say that she can not sing shows that you do not know much about what is takes to sing.
