Having a crush on a straight guy is an all-too-common problem for some gay men.
But even worse is not knowing if the guy is gay or straight.
Here’s a tip for finding out: Go up to him and say, “Hey, are you gay?” It’s 2015 and if you already aren’t sure which way he swings, hopefully he won’t be offended.
Or, you know, you could just agonize about it on Whisper like these guys; your choice:
How about we take this to the next level?

You’re not “in love” with somebody you don’t know, only see occasionally or don’t know if he’s the right sexuality…A crush maybe…infatuation maybe…but you’re not “in love”…

Sometimes a straight guy is just super friendly and makes a lot of eye contact. They can be warm and kind-hearted by nature or possibly have there own agenda such as joining their religion or cult, buying their Amway, or some other scheme. A couple of times my wishful thinking convinced me a friendly straight cute guy was showing up on my gaydar. Live and learn. You won’t know for sure unless you check.

You always have to check first. There is no other way.

The desire to know if a man is gay disappears after I swallow.

When I first went to Japan, all the men seemed gay to me. They don’t exhibit the tough machismo and aggressiveness common among many straight (and some gay) American men. Their mannerisms and gender esthetic are very different from typical American men. Many of them display what we now call “metrosexuality” in American cities. After I acculturated a bit, the men no longer seemed gay to me, but it was still difficult to distinguish the gay and straight ones.

Sweethearts being extremely effeminate has its perks as men hit on me as there is no question I am gay.

How many of us confuse gaydar with wishful thinking?
jwtraveler
@polarisfashion: Yes!

These all read like they have been written by kids. A little life experience and they’ll figure it out.

if you’re too scared to be out or to ask somebody, you have no business in a relationship. Clearly these are insecure youngsters or closeted gays themselves.
Clark35
@Randy: Exactly. It’s easy for me to tell if a man is bisexual or gay, or if he’s heterosexual but it’s always been this way for me. I blame grindr and other apps like it for gay and bi men not having bidar or gay dar anymore.
Captain Obvious
Oh another Reddit based “article” using internet whining as a barometer for real life problems. Also more straight guy worship for good measure.

I have never had gaydar so I guess I don’t need it.

this is asinine. WHISPER – for clueless homos who don’t realize that their worship of straight-culture and refusal to jump into the open world being openly-LGBT, actually openly out, will solve their damn problems.
gayrdar is real. know how you hone it? you start hanging out with gay people more. try it.
Will Glitzern
The worst ones give you all the signs, but then deny everything and run the other way when you confront them with it.
Chris
Try something along the lines of:
“Wanna go to [insert gay bar or club] some time?”
“I’m gay and am wondering if you’d like to go out.”
If you’re in high school, “I belong to the Gay-Straight-(rest of letters) alliance. Would you like to come to one of our meetings?” [I wish they had existed back in prehistory; but….]
It takes being comfortable with yourself and figuring that the worst that can happen is he says “no.” [And if that’s not the worst, then you need some new friends.]

Just ask. With caution.

“Yes homo, or no homo?” That usually works for me.
[I kid. Don’t try that :)… or do, and get back to us with details.]
Clark35
@Captain Obvious: LOL those are all things you can count on with queerty’s “articles” they’ve been posting for awhile.
Douglas Dookie Spence
geeberz…you don’t need an app for that. Just tell them you think they’re really cute over a 6 pack of beverages and see what the reaction is. If it’s a No…it’s a no. If it’s a maybe….it’s a maybe, if they start kissing you…well then you know for sure. I think things have changed in the world enough that with so many guys appearing ‘metrosexual” that it’s difficult to tell. So hey…just ask. What have you got to lose?

dear insecure homos, there is not “how do i find out if he’s gay?”
if you don’t get have gaydar, (which is a real thing which can be honed) you simply do this; LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU’RE GAY. it’s THAT simple.
there are a billion ways to let it be known that you’re gay without making it awkward. come ON already. it’s 2015.
do i need to print a list of dozens of ways to verbalize this so people can stop running around like chickens with their heads cut off?
