So upset with the Congress moving to protect GLBTs from hate crime violence, James Dobson is admitting defeat. For now. The Focus on the Family founder (and ex-president) has no more insight, is out of options, and has given up hope of ever turning America into the place of hate and exclusion he so wishes it to be.
Well, so long as Obama and the Democrats are running the show. And until that business comes to an end, Dobson wants his flock to just sit tight, twiddle their thumbs, and pray for salvation. Or an election year.
Dobson already admitted defeat in the culture wars. And now that the Matthew Shepard Act is en route to becoming law, he’s fears that it will lead to protections for “incest, necrophilia, pedophilia, and prostitution” are JUST TOO MUCH! He tells his followers:
I want to tell you up front that we’re not going to ask you to do anything, to make a phone call or to write a letter or anything.
There is nothing you can do at this time about what is taking place because there is simply no limit to what the left can do at this time. Anything they want, they get and so we can’t stop them.
We tried with [Health and Human Services Secretary] Kathleen Sebelius and sent thousands of phone calls and emails to the Senate and they didn’t pay any attention to it because they don’t have to. And so what you can do is pray, pray for this great nation… As I see it, there is no other answer. There’s no other answer, short term.
I’ve been on the air for 32 years and I’ve never seen a time quite like this. It just illustrates what happens when we don’t have what the Founding Fathers referred to as checks and balances, where the excesses of one party or one branch of government limit the reach of power hungry and self-serving people and keeps them form doing things that are harmful to the country. That’s the way the system was designed. We have 2 major political parties in this country, not one. And bipartisanship is a media creation that’s designed to promote one point of view instead of the debate that should occur. And that’s why media doesn’t talk about bipartisanship when conservatives are in power…
…[today] the radical left controls the executive branch through the president, and the Congress… and the Judiciary through the courts… now they control it all, including every department of government. As a result, the legislation that should shock the nation, if people were paying attention, is being rushed into law.

I like his idea very much. As they say, nothing fails like prayer, so I’d be happy to see idiots like Dobson do nothing other than pray. Go ahead, pray all you want–those of us who live in the real world will be acting for change and progress.

The good Lord can call this douche home annnnnnytime now.
Someone should tell him that he really stands out in a suit while cruising in the bushes.

So..during W’s reign of terror he was blissfully happy with the status quo of so called checks and balances because they were all in his small minded favor. Now that things have turned to favor all the other people who were victimized by Bush for two terms, Dobson is upset. Too bad for him. It took eight long years for OUR prayers to be answered.
Nickadoo
God will answer all your prayers.
Sometimes the answer is “no.”

Let’s see we had to deal with Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. And now that we have a Democrate in power the great party of “No” wants to take their toys and run away. I have always said the Republicians are the worse loser and worse winners (or whinners). A party with a history of being anti women, anti minorities, anti science and civil rights now wants to pout.
Not like the Demo’s are doing us any good either. I like how the Democrates are sitting back while promises made during the election are being ignored. We can not just sit back and let the Democrates think that we are o.k. with this either. Have we become the Rodchester (from Amos & Andy) to the Democratic party?
Where was Obama during Prop 8? Where is he now that men and womne are still being kick out of the military? Has he become what we worsed feared? I am tired of waiting and promises ignored.

My advice for Jimmy-boy is that I hear that Gambia is nice this time of year! Maybe it is time for a mass exodus? And he can take the Westboro Baptist Church with him.

But Obama and Dobson both think that LGBT relationships and families are less worthy than heterosexual relationships and families as Obama firmly stated “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman because God is in them mix.”
Obama and Dobson sing the same tune when it comes to our lives and our basic rights. (Same song, differnt remix and DJ, but the same lyrics nonetheless…)
Dobbie should feel glad that he has a friend in the White House, one who just loves Dobbie’s ideological (sp?) spawn Ricky Warren.
These guys are all cut from the same gay-hating cloth.

Don’t count this hateful, evil, vile, sexually repressed churl out, he will be back next year for the 2010 elections, louder, nastier and more hateful that ever and with more GOP politicos standing up and with him.
Tony
Dobson is like dried dog crap on a lawn. Once it rains we will be smelling him again. He will be back, sad to say. He is like a stubborn turd, no matter how many times we try to flush he returns…..
Oh how the feces metaphors freely flow whenever Dobson comes up.

What a owl faced kook. You just know this is what Bill Perdue looks like BWWAHAHA!

AH, where’s his USA flag lapel-pin??? He’s unpatriotic.
Go back to Boulder. and go screw yourself Dobbie. I’ll make you a deal: You stay outta my bedroom and I’ll definitely stay outta your church.

@Dick Mills: Jim Jone’s property, Jonestown, probably could be bought in Guiana. Then Dobson and his flock could really drink the kool-aid LOL

Hitler was counted out once too. He was a political near-do-well at one point.

OldFAQ
Oberstrumbanfuhrer Dobson. An utterly merciless scowl on his face and the hair to match. I swear I can visualize him dressed in SS uniform and hat. No, he’s not Rudolf Hoss but I truly believe he has a similar agenda. Were it within his power, Dobson would have no hesitation in ordering us onto the cattle cars for a one-way ride to some desolate place in rural, god forsaken Oklahoma. You younger folks probably have no idea what this OldFAQ is babbling on about here but there’s a certain look about him. One that sends the proverbial chill up my spine. Don’t count him or his minions out just yet.
John
it’s an exciting time, watching the old guard die off or come to terms that their brand of bigotry isn’t what the population wants anymore.
Bruno
First he retired, then he said the culture wars were lost, now he’s given up. So why won’t he shut the fuck up already?

I love how people like Dobson are talking about checks and balances and the importance of ‘protecting the nation’. Uhm…Bush? We lived in a DICTATORSHIP for his 8 years.
Joanaroo
Hi Old FAQ! I know exactly what you mean. I referred to Hitler in the discussion on right wing radio. The hate from the right reminds me of the power that Hitler had over his followers. It’s scary the hatred the religious right is willing to spew. It sure isn’t the love thy neighbor, be forgiving crap the religiosos want you to believe they’re full of. WE know what they’re full of!
Mickey's mouse
@BrianZ: I’m sure there is someone else ready to take his place, Jesus freaks are like a plague of locusts….

A great example that even God isn’t perfect but loving. Anything else would have thrown this mistake into the trash heap once they saw what a disaster they had created. God must feel toward Dobson like the parent of a child that turns out to be a serial killer or rapist does, an utter failure. Oh father we forgive you for this terrible creature you bestowed upon the world, cause it could happen to the best of us. Amen.
Paul
@michael: LMFAO. Could not have said it better. What an washed up asswipe that Dobson is. Yes, god isn’t perfect either….
Mike
@Joanaroo: you’d like a quote I heard from my pastor, who is way too good of a pastor to ever be famous (let’s be honest, a good pastor doesn’t care about getting the largest congregation possible, he cares about taking care of the congregation he has… anyway), his quote is, and he repeats this often “any Christian who claims to love God but hate their neighbor is at best a liar and at worst a hypocrite… neither are qualities that He looks too kindly on”
chapeau
Here’s a prayer for ya Dobbie — I pray your kidney’s fail.
Geoff
@Mike: That is excellent!
I agree w/just about everyone else too in that much like Arnold…”he will be back”. Right now it’s just that he wants his flock to bide their time until an election year.
Justin
@Tony: Saying Obama and Dobson are cut from the same cloth is akin to that oft-heard line by Nader Supporters that Gore and Bush were no different (which they obviously were not as the Nader supporters learned from the last eight years). I’m not gonna lie I’m definitely disappointed in Obama’s recent actions regarding LGBT issues, but calling him and Dobson the same is a stretch. Obama’s moving slow on election promises. Dobson and his ilk would have us in camps if it weren’t for that pesky Constitution.
Mark
Clearly, Dobson knows NOTHING about how this country is structured. Checks and Balances refers to the 3 co-equal branches of the gov’t, not the political parties that make up the legislative branch.
Not only does the man purvey mythology poorly, he has no idea what country he resides in.
I can easily rest my case about this man: he is a MORON.
Brian Miller
They’re out of money. They spent their life savings on anti-gay hate amendments that are being struck down, one by one.
Evangelicalism is in free-fall collapse in this country. Its adherents are abandoning it en masse and it has nothing to offer the average person other than a feeling of temporary superiority over one’s neighbors.
It’s eventually going to go the way of pet rocks and disco. And none too soon!
schlukitz
@Brian Miller:
Hoola-hoops and slinkies too. ;-P

Hi Mike! You’re right in that there are decent religious people who do practice what they preach. It has been people like Dobson, Robertson, Warren and others of the religious right who have turned me against religion with their hatred and hypocrisy.
