Is Lady Gaga making “short films” now, not music videos? Listen, it’s creative. It’s a mediocre song. But jeez lady, get over yourself. Backlash is around the corner, and you’ve been at this, what, three years?
For those of you in countries where Vevo isn’t available, try this:

A diva she is, illuminate the goddess within
Jake the libertarian
I like it. It’s dark and pretty gross, but it is creative. And no matter what all you fags think, Gaga has been a huge supporter of us. I appreciate it. It wasn’t that long ago that we wouldn’t have a chance of having a main stream artist so openly gay friendly. Even the gay artists of the past like Elton and George Michael weren’t this in your face about gay rights.
Looking forward to the next single. 🙂
Wyatt
Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, and Katy Perry are all pandering to the gay community because they realize they can make $$$ off of your stupidity. Gay =/= liking bad music.
Jack E. Jett
She is not burning out…..She is lighting up.
She is a Madonna for a new generation.
I don’t care for the extra footage but love the song and the music video part of it.
Why are gay people so anxious to throw our allies under the bus?
We did it with Hillary Clinton and look where it got us.
cybernoelie
I still prefer the Valentino version (which she totally ripped off along with combining it with Madge tunes).
Daveny
@Jack E. Jett: So because she throws the gay community a bone, we suppose to always like anything and everything she puts out? Maybe the video and the song really does suck, ever thought of that? Also why would would you want her to be “the next” anything, wouldn’t you want her to be her own self? The video was just pure randomness.
Matt
Boring overkill for bad song.

WATCHING THIS CRAP I’M 100% THAT GOD MAKES MISTAKES.

AMAZING! SO MUCH ART! SHE IS KILLING US OF STENDHAL SYNDROME!

This video is epic on many proportions. She’s doing new things and I find it incredible. Plus, sci-fi. HELLO. Amazing.

One Word Review: FOUL
dani
lol @queerty
It was a very good vid, the part where she’s wearing a tux and weird make up all over her face.. UNF ffs, I really dig the coreography its catchy and makes me wanna jump and just start dancing, I think once again she nailed it, guess she’s just that awesome that she can’t go wrong????
Elloreigh
If I had to describe it in one word: bizarre.
But this is what some artists do; they aren’t content with churning out more of the same or doing what’s safe. She’s apparently on her own journey. Sorry, but I’m not coming along for the ride. Others may, and that’s fine. “Different strokes for different folks”.
Whatever the message of this video was supposed to be, it didn’t come through to me.
I just don’t see how the additional stuff at the beginning fits with the rest of the song. Is she trying to start a new religion?
I like some of Lady Gaga’s songs, but I’m not about to worship at her feet, and I don’t believe she should get a free pass or be immune from criticism just because she’s an ardent supporter of LGBTs.
Points for inclusive lyrics, but I’m not enamored of the song on the whole, and this video doesn’t do anything to improve its standing with me.
For those who are in love with this video and the song, maybe you can explain why to those of us who just aren’t getting it.
George
@Elloreigh: I mean there’s nothing to get, really. If you like it, fine. If you don’t, that’s fine too. It’s just music.
Red Meat
Oh its an overkill alright because she just killed Madonna’s career three times over.
Sam
Killed Madonna’s career? She recycled a 20 year old Madonna song and mimics her various reinventions. Give me a break. I like GaGa but Madonna is an original and nobody will be able to replace her.
SteamPunk
I think that music video is pretty darn cool. Despite it being 7+ minutes, it moved by quickly. The song, unfortunately, is still not so good. But watching the video with the song makes the tune a bit more bearable.
Scott Bonzitski
Hey, its’ ENTERTAINMENT. If you don’t like it, feel free to try out making your own legacy. (let alone a good video) I think it is fine and entertaining but, I’m not getting my panties in a wad because of the critics…SB

The song, I thought it was mediocre at first, but now I love it. LOVE IT. I listen to it on my way to class or thereabout on campus and it makes me feel fabulous.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
The video is great, imo. I love the intro bit. It’s so obviously shite, but it’s done with such seriousness that it borders on camp and that may be its saving grace. Then the song starts and it’s as mediocre as ever, but the dance routines again are so crap in parts – some of the moves are done so quickly that she can’t quite achieve them properly and then that bit where she’s hopping up and down – it becomes laughable and then you realise she’s brilliant. I find it’s the rougher edges, the stuff that fails (perhaps intentionally) that make me like her.
The use of Bernard Herrmann’s Vertigo theme is sacrilege though.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
…the bit with the zombie/tuxedo is fantastic.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
…and the final bit at the end, where she’s walking in the darkness down some back alley with the white gloves. That and the zombie make-up seem like a blatant nod to Michael Jackson at his peak. Add to that the Madonna rip-off and it seems like she’s purposely “quoting” the two biggest stars of the last 30 years.
The final shot with her blowing a bubble is perfect. She’s got a sense of humour.
I think I love her again now. x
David
Not a fan of this song or video, not sure why I tend to like her stuff. Tbh i think it was overhyped
Red Meat
@Sam: She already replaced Madonna and Madonna original? Bitch please, Kylie Minogue was here before Madonna came and stoled her image, music, and videos.
jason
I thought Born This Way was supposed to be a gay anthem. She should have shown male-male sensuality in her video, not this bizarre stuff. Just goes to show that she’s a fake through and through.
Lady Gaga is a mega-phony who is using gay men as stepping stones to get rich. You’ve all been dudded by this fake.
Taylor Siluwé
Freakishly cool video.
Funny how she can puts out this crap song for a great cause and we love her even more. Some of us.
Amazing ….

So who should we like? Pat Boone? Leave it to fags to put down the most pro-gay artist around today. I don’t recall as much negativity when WASTE-OF-HUMAN-SPACE-ASS-UGLY-FACE Galliano went on his anti-semetic tirade last week.

Oh Dear God! This video is just satanic! Extreme occult and illuminati symbolism. Transhumanism seems to be the main topic of the video… Just wrong… I’m sorry Lady GaGa, but I’m not a monster… I wasn’t born that way…
gbbbbbbb
I couldn’t really get past the whole “I’m your mother monster” I mean, I couldn’t even watch the video. I don’t like her anymore. She’s too annoying.
mike128
It’s amazing how much hatred and judgment is projected onto Lady Gaga by some on the gay sites. You don’t have to love her – but can you at least appreciate the innovation and positivity she brings to her work?
I would like to see anyone who has such a negative critique actually produce something better. It’s much easier to critique and hate than it is to create. MUCH easier.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
@mike128: But you’re “critiquing” right there. It’s what people do, and if the artist in question has come to claim and be seen as a gay icon or gay spokesperson or representative or whatever then they should expect to be questioned more rigorously by the gay community and those who find her lacking are going to be far more emotionally against her. It just stands to reason.
This whole idea that we should just love everything she does purely because she’s a gay advocate is also ludicrous. You can praise her for her advocacy and still find her music lacking.
I like her and think she’s great, but to be honest I don’t really see any “innovation” at all.
Also, the message that we were all born this way isn’t a positive one at all, it’s a passive stance.
We can all appreciate what she does, but that doesn’t mean we have to leave our brains at the door. 🙂
Lucky Luke
I liked the Madonna + Micheal Jackson outfit in the end, tooth gap included.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
@Red Meat: Er, no. Madonna released three albums and most of her best work before Kylie recorded a single note. Though both are miles better than Gaga, granted.
mike128
I forget which artist said that it’s unfortunate to be a woman in pop: people have this need to compare female pop artists, as if there can be only one.
Whoever it was, I think she was right.
Jack E. Jett
@Daveny: I don’t think she is the “next thing”, I think she is the current thing.

@sammy8a: Maybe you missed the whole point of “born this way”.
I’m just sayin’.
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
The oddest thing about Gaga is that she doesn’t seem to have any personality.
Unlike all the artists she’s constantly compared to, who all had and have strong stage presence and distinct personalities, Gaga just seems to be a succession of “looks”, which is interesting in itself.
TomMc
I was surprised she went the sci-fi route too. Not as thrilled with the video as I though I’d be… Overall, in two words: Primordial Ooze.
Shawn
You old people can say whatever you want…I loved it. You guys can have Madonna. I love her too, but guess what…she was you’re generation, there is 1 or 2 generations below you now…get over it.
I didn’t like the song at first…but the video made me feel proud…like a Madonna song or Cher….
The singing bumhole from Pink Flamingos
@Red Meat: Oh, I see. She lifted four images which were kind of similar a couple of years ago.
Not really “stealing her image, music, and videos” is it?

Strange and somewhat disturbing. May grow on me. The song did – I thought it was pretty mediocre on first listening, and now I actually like it.
Babs
Lady Gaga is an attention hog who is cashing out on gay rights. The meat dress was too much for me.
thedarkchariot
Eh…I actually was a moderate fan of hers, but the song isn’t that great, and the video? Honestly, I know this has been said before, but wouldn’t a video about gay rights be a lot more direct if it showed affection between gay men?
nineinchnail
SHITE!!! Comparing this dumb bitch to Madonna and Kylie is an insult.
DJ
I appreciate the support she gives for the gay community, but I still think the bitch is crazy.
Pip
@nineinchnail: kylie minogue is a mediocre whore. Being around for 30 years doesnt automatically make you a good pop star. you have to have good songs first.

@Pip: Kylie’s latest album was waaaay better than what Madonna, Britney and Aguilera have been producing lately. Get Out of My Way is pop music perfection.

@Sam: Just because some find the similarity *(a few beats) doesn’t matter that there’s any connection. And speaking of being original, no one is better at it then GaGa. Every performance is different, every song is newly invented (unlike some who have no sense of originality and creativity keep repeat the same old thing just because it hip, or so some said)
kernelt
@Gay foetus: P.S. I didn’t really wanted to post this rely but couldn’t help it…
Son you sure reflect who you are, immature, airhead, and ignorant…
Bieber might have a charm in his pocket, but his credential as a star singer is lacking. His only theme in songs is chasing after girl as if to show how manly his appear (*only quiet opposite). And his interpretation of lyrics is pathetic (I didn’t know this until latter when some other group sing his songs)
Ian
God forbid an artist puts forth some creativity in their videos. The bitchers remind me of those who complained at the ending of The Sopranoes because an actual ounce of thought had to be put in to understand the ending. The simple fact is Americans hate creative outside the boundary artistic expression and want to be spoon-fed mindless and uncreative dribble-piss like American Idol and Glee.
Zeus
Why does Queerty suddenly hate her so much? Putting “short films” in quotes? Aside from the opening 2 minutes, the rest is a normal music video and there aren’t any more “short film” aspects to it unlike in Telephone where there were quite a few breaks in the music for filmed segments.
Ian
@Zeus: Queerty seems to be riding the hate-wave against Lady Gaga, apparently now bored with her and wanting to build up the next singer to then later be torn down, in a never ending cycle of club-kid attention spanned boredom and desire for the “next big thing”.
jackpacer
You know that the meat dress was not originally supposed to be made out of meat. She had asked the man behind the “Bodies” exhibit (amazing by the way) to make an outfit out of human body parts from the exhibit. Thank goodness he refused. Lady GaGa is ok, will she be around 10 years from now, don’t know. The strange thing can only go so far before it gets old. She should take a cue from her mentor Madonna, reinvention works great for a long career. I love Kylie too, Madonna was first though. If you watch Madonna’s and Kylie’s concerts, you can see where each of them pays homage to the other’s career, especially “Vogue”. Kylie performed Vogue on one of her tours, paying respects to Madonna. Then Madonna used that performance to inspire the costumes used for Vogue on her Sticky Sweet Tour, paying Kylie some respect as well
Robbie K
I now know where babies come from..lol..love it Gaga
Dan
Absolutely artistic.
McMike
While I have always like LG’s music, I definitely thought she was a fake, a poser, someone trying way too hard to be different. However, when an artist makes it their main cause to try to tell the world we were born this way then she has nothing but the utmost respect and admiration from me.
You guys who are ripping into her need to piss off. Next time you get called a ‘fag’ tell Karma I said hi.
Mike_AFX
You guys are fucking ridiculous. You’re ridiculing a HUGE supporter of the LGBT community who is helping to usher in social change. It doesn’t matter how much $$$$ she is cashing in, she is helping to lead the fight for equality. You all need to shut the fuck up and be glad we have an ally such as her. /rant
Gay foetus
Am I the only one who thinks we should praise any substandard old crap she throws out just because she’s a supporter of dem gays?
The singing bumhole in Pink Flamingos
@Mike_AFX: Maybe they can’t help not being uncritical sheeple. Maybe they were born that way? 🙁
Scott
it really is Express Yourself wrapped in a different paper. There is a difference between pushing the envelope and just tacky crap.
mark snyder
@Sam: I’m the biggest madonna fan ever but lets not forget she stole…er celebrated?… vogue-ing from queer people of color, and many of her other styles and songs were taken…er… in homage to other artists too.
Jeffree
@McMike: LadyGaga, like AdamLambert, is someone whose music I don’t always love, but who has a social conscience & who tries to bring our LGBT issues into the memes & converations of of pop.culture.
She took a bad mis-step with Target, ok, but I think the animosity toward her seems ten times greater than toward our true foes, the people who want to keep us from full equality.
As for the comparions with Madonna, we could just as easily say she took her cues from Marilyn Monroe or Jayne mansfield or Marlene Dietrich….
Ain’t much new under the face of the sun. That’s how culture works…..
Ryan
It amazes me when gay guys defend her. Her interest in supporting gays begins and ends with your willingness and her interest in being treated like a queen by gays. She calls herself ‘mother monster’ and was a shot of gay guys bowing at her feet and kneeling to her just like the last video. She not supporting YOU, she’s supporting you worshiping her.
Jeffree
So, Ryan, would u prefer she be against us or for us?
jason
I think we are witnessing the special permission that is given to female pop singers to say they’re bi whereas male singers must hide it. It’s a double standard.
It’s as if women are being given permission to fake it whereas men’s more genuine sexuality is suppressed by the very same marketing teams who are encouraging women to fake it.
It’s a barf-inducing hypocrisy.
Brian
Lady Gaga is in a spiral, and this video confirms it. She missed the *perfect* opportunity to show mainstream gays and lesbians as “born this way” instead of trying to do some bizarre sci-fi art project.
She could best be a true ally by using her power and influence to illustrate what the song says. Christina Aguilera did it with “Beautiful” and the song was only a fraction as in-your-face as this.
I’m disappointed in her for putting herself above the message, and for so many “little monsters” for following her blindly. I kinda think that she could have reworked “Two Girls, One Cup” for this video, and she would have called it art while her biggest fans would have called it genius.
Spike
Oh so now she has decided for the gay community that the pink triangle should be turned over, in addition to this Madonna rip-off as our next anthem.
Again I have to agree with Charo and Ozzie . .
Charo: She is Madonna with diarrhea.
Ozzie: She really needs to go away for a while.
Adora
Is she a gay icon? But where is gay theme in mysic video? Agree with Max & Jason.

“I’m disappointed in her for putting herself above the message, and for so many ‘little monsters’ for following her blindly.”
At least she’s using her massive megaphone to deliver a powerful equality message. Love or hate the song and video, but all this slamming of one of our most vocal advocates is … well, stupid.
Everyone of our grandmas’ must have told us at one point, ‘if you don’t anything nice to say, shut the fcuk up.’ Advice that could be well taken when it comes to this video.
We “little monsters” give love (rightfully so) to those who express love and support to us. If that’s a confusing concept, then I can’t help you.
However, I’m totally blown away by the amount of people willing to slam Gaga when there are so many out their desperately working for our vitriol and even our hate.
Senseless … bordering on despicable.
Taylor Siluwé
Another thought …
At first sight I knew this video would cause certain religious folk to clutch their pearls and clench their a$$holes shut in horror.
For that alone I was so gleeful I almost peed.
Fcuk ’em if they can’t take a joke.
Go GAGA!!!
Gay vegetable
Am I the only one who thinks we should stop thinking and just buy whatever she puts out because she’s awfully nice to gay people?
Catmann
I am sooooo goddamn motherfuckin sick and tired of everyone comparing every new white female artist with blond hair to Madonna. Geeez, the media and the gays did it to Britney, Ashley Simpson, Pink, Kylie Minogue,Christina Aguilera (though Madonna can’t hold a candle to Christina’s chops) and now they are doing it to Lady GaGa. I personally have listened to Born This Way over 20x now and still hear absolutely no resemblence to Express Yourself. A friend of mine, whose a music teacher mind you, also said other than having the same beats per minute (as most all dance songs do), they sound nothing alike.
Lady GaGa is NOT Madonna, thankfully! They are very different artist.
If anything Lady GaGa has more of a style of Grace Jones. But I forgot she’s black and therefore they cannot be compared.
Good thing Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Rhianna or even JLo (all of whom have big gay followings and have been vocally supportive of the gay community)arent white, otherwise they’ve would be accused of copying Madonna also.
I love Madonna as much as the next gay guy but I think we over extend her credit a bit much.
Cashew
To be honest, I was horrified the first time I saw the video. It’s freakish and some of it is downright ugly. I guess I’d hoped that for the song she would tone it down a bit and pay homage to LGBT couples in a more simple and beautiful video. Instead we got the opposite of that.
But after watching it a few times, I do see some artistic value. I still don’t completely get the opening…and I don’t like her main look (the hair, weird face implants, she could afford to put on a little bit of weight too). But there are parts I’ve grown to like. The MJ dancing in the suit is just adorable, one of my favorite things from ANY of her MVs.
And honestly, to those complaining about her emulating Madonna – seriously? The influence is so blatant that she flaunts it. She’s literally VOGUEING in the video. It’s more of an homage than anything.
I’ve grown to like the song a lot, too. It may be generic for Gaga, but it’s still better than most songs put out by the rest of the music industry nowadays.
BlogShag
Recycled Madonna. Madonna did it better. The only thing Lady Gaga does much better than Madonna is dress better. Madonna’s sense of fashion was/ is terrible.
Ryan
@Jeffree: I would prefer that she didn’t flat out say : “I represent gay people” when she is not a gay person she’s a straight girl. It isn’t actually challenging to the straight mainstream to have a Women as substitute for gay male representation because it enforces ideas that gay men are just women trapped in men’s bodies. Even though that is used to ridicule gay men it is also what they want gay men to be. They’re less threatened by gay men by culturally positioning them as extentions of women or subservient to women, which you see in an endless stream of life network shows where gay guys are domestic side-kicks to women as one example. To be blunt: they’re not threatened by the exclusive bottom’s there afraid of the tops..you know what I mean? So having Gaga do a million interviews where she can’t shut up about representing gays and then does a video where she goes “walk walk fashion baby , bitch crazy” with the catty claws out and all that…that’s not helping you. Or the high heels and leotards in the Vouge;) video. It’s keeping you right where you are.
But I understand you wanting to root for her and wanting to overlook that. Because gay men are minorities we only have so much strength in numbers to get this sort of center-of-pop-culture attention and admiration. But with a female artist who can get cross over with straight girls there’s bigger numbers so, like Madonna, she’s sort offered to gays like : “Here is a woman for you to feel vicariously mainstream through.” And I understand the appeal of that, wanting to feel like your represented on such a collective level. It’s just to me, it’s a trap.
I’ll believe she’s really supporting us when it’s not about her as the leader/queen/mother of gays. When she doesn’t have gay guys bowing at her feet in videos.
Jeffree
@Adora: STFU, Jason.
jason
Lady Gaga is a fake. Her Born This Way was cynically marketed as a gay anthem but it’s nothing more than another very ordinary song with absolutely nothing to say about gay rights. Her video for the song contains zombies and Lady Gaga dancing in a bikini. What the fuck….
She’s a fake who has manipulated drug-addled gay guys into purchasing her records.
Joseph
Why do GaGa, Kylie, Mandonna and all of those others sound alike? The songs all have the same beat and are all very mediocre.
justiceontherocks
