Directors are trying to use more sex in films and certainly on places like HBO, where these cable people have lots of sex. Gus Van Sant told me in his pilot [Boss for Starz] he had a sex scene but they told him, There’s not enough nudity. We need ‘pay-cable moments.’ They’re actually pushing for more sexual content. And if they’re done the right way, it won’t just be a ‘pay-cable moment,’ it will actually be intrinsic to the story. Sex has the potential for being a great storytelling device. But it just hasn’t been used up until now.”
