I used to go out to the gay clubs when I was a kid. We were 16 or 17 and my best friend would pretend to be my manager. He’d have business cards made up and he’d negotiate for me to sing for $25 a song. I’d have these amazing drag queens style me up and down, honey. They would be up there lip-synching and then I’d get up and sing for real — some Whitney Houston or some old-school Shirley Murdock — and I would make all the money. That was like my training, basically.”

While that is sweet and all and I am glad we could help here make some money….but why does she refuse to support our right to equality in marriage? Why does she continually get a free pass in the gay press?

@Bobby Christina Crawford: The gay press has indeed targeted her and blasted her for years knowing that she starting singing in church despite performing in gay clubs. In the past she has spouted some religious teachings about gay sin. Here is one of her more recent quotes about gay marriage:
“I think to each its own, if nobody is hurting anybody—who cares? Everyone should be able to do what they want and be happy. Who you love is who you love. That’s the way I see it,”
She also performed Same Love with Macklemore and Mary Lambert on an awards show, so it would be difficult to not give her somewhat of a pass at this point.

All decisions are about money….I question her and Macklemore`s sincerity…

I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt of any huge celebrity who comes out firmly on our side. Yes, for some it’s more pandering than others, but there’s some risk involved. Wether J-Hud losing her church fans, or Carrie Underwood pissing off the hard right christian demo, or Rob Halfold coming out to one of the 2 most macho demographics and shockingly no one caring at all (this one was quite surprising to me in a good way). If someone is willing to put their neck out, I’m at least happy they’re on our side.

How very interesting…

Remember she gets PAID to perform as mentioned in this article. So I am not impressed that she is PAID to perform with gay artists. OR that she delivers some vague bullshit line about the subject.
The fact is that she believes being gay is a SIN. She does NOT believe we have the same right to MARRY as she does. My point is that the gay press is very selective about who the decide to call out and who they decide to give a free ride. This is why GLAAD has become nothing more than the Producers of an Awards Show. They are not going to dare call anyone out that they might want to perform or show up at a public event.
Jennifer Hudson has taken for more from the gay community than she has ever given back. Yet she is not nearly as harmful as our own little diva Janet Ms Jackson If Your Nasty current religious view on homosexuality.
Yet her struggle is the same as many. Brainwashed religious fanatics who have gay friends are in a constant struggle to rationalize the hatred towards gays they have been brought up with their common sense.

My point was simply that Jennifer has not had a “free ride” by the gay press. She has been criticized and questioned for years about her religion and beliefs and statements concerning homosexuality.
More recently her statements, as vague as you feel they are, and being paid to perform a pop marriage equality anthem with a lesbian artist project somewhat of a different and contrasting attitude in relation to her earlier statements.
I’m not sure if questioning her sincerity or calling her out on her personal religious beliefs of what sin is and ain’t would do anything to promote marriage equality, when by all appearances it seems she supports it.
What dirt do you have on Janet? What did she do?
