Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson has informed his fans that he’s been treated for cancer, but rather than making a statement through his publicist, the comic actor posted a revealing photo. In the picture posted to his Instagram account Tuesday, the 40-year-old performer, who celebrated two years of marital bliss with husband Justin Mikita in July, can be seen with a white bandage on his face with a message expressing gratitude to Dr. Bennett for “taking the cancer out of [his] face.”
The type of cancer Ferguson had hasn’t been disclosed, but we wish him a full and speedy recovery. Ferguson is scheduled to headline the one-man comedy Fully Committed for a strictly limited engagement in Spring 2016 on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre.

Hope he gets better, much respect for him living an honest life and promoting equality for the glbt community.

Battling cancer or just having a malignant mole cut out of your face.

I hope all goes well with his recovery.

@Stache: I don’t really think there is a “just” there, really.
NoCagada
@Stache: Let us know how you feel when you have a melanoma removed
Evji108
@NoCagada: They didn’t say it was melanoma or malignant.(Melanoma is always malignant). All they said was that is was an undisclosed type of cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and it is not malignant and pretty easy to get rid of. So if it was just a basal cell carcinoma it isn’t much to worry about, but melanoma can turn very serious if left untreated.

Saw him in Spam-A-Lot last summer. He’s awesome.

Why do they call it a “battle”. You don’t really fight cancer. You treat it. You endure suffrage and you survive it.
Jeff Cooley
God bless you Jesse in your battle. I just lost my husband to cancer in June after 35 years together.

Probably just a spot if skin cancer… not uncommon for people with his complexion… and not much of a “battle”, either, as I’m sure Jesse would admit. Use your sunscreen, fellas.

@Evji108: Basal cell carcinoma is malignant, as all carcinomas are malignant by definition. However it rarely metastasises and is therefore a lot more treatable than melanomas.

@Jeff Cooley:
I’m sorry for your loss.

Here’s a really good (scientific) lecture on immunity based treatments. There are simpler you-tube videos on immunity, but this is succinct, mozart-like, and humorous. The lecturer is a fantastic communicator. Cancer, be nervous.

@NoCagada: Maybe I’m just hardened watching cancer eat away at my dad over the course of years with him “battling” it the entire way only to lose in the end. I’ve also had two friends get melanoma cut out of their bodies. Not fun but not exactly battling anything either. Just their dermatologist playing it safe.

Being a ginger as well I know his struggle. I had a large patch removed from my back that came back as melanoma. They went back in an removed more to make sure that they removed it all. Being a ginger with green eyes makes us far more susceptible to skin cancer. As one other person said, use your sun screen! It was scary waiting for the results and now I have a massive 6 inch round scar patch on my back. Along with sun screen get checked out by your doctor regularly for irregular spots on your body.

@Jeff Cooley: All I know to say is that I’m really sorry for you. We can put a man on the moon and make photo’s of unborn babies and galaxies we can’t even see with the bare eye but this terrible disease is still a big problem that messes up so many lives. I’m still recovering from a bad break up six years ago and that relationship lasted only a fraction of 35 years! I hope you’ll be able to find peace and appreciate all the good events you experienced. All the best…..

I’m sorry that this guy has cancer and wish him a fast recovery/remission; but I’m not sure who he is?
Sam D. Maloney
I wish him well, though the headline is a little inflammatory. Most redheads his age have likely had at least one skin cancer cut or frozen off.
