Both Melania Trump and Dr. Jill Biden will at tonight’s presidential debate, where they will watch their husbands face off for the first time in the 2020 election.
The two women couldn’t be more different, and we’re not just talking about their party affiliations. While the former Second Lady has been busy traveling the country, campaigning for her husband, and working tirelessly to bring a divided nation together, her Republican counterpart has kept herself locked away in the White House, not engaging with anyone, and couldn’t seem less interested in, frankly, anything.
Another way they differ is in their relationships with LGBTQ people.
On paper, Melania Trump checks all the right boxes for being a stereotypical, late ’90s/early ’00s, Sex and the City sort of gay icon. She’s beautiful (at least on the outside), she’s sex positive (as exemplified by her willingness to overlook her husband’s infidelities), and she’s a little bit of a rebel (she really doesn’t care, do U?). She also has nudes, which should make her relatable… except that she’s married to the worst president in American history who has spent the past three and a half years chipping away at LGBTQ rights.

Dr. Biden, on the other hand, is more like an updated 2020 version of a gay icon, which is so much cooler. She’s smart (she has a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees, and doctoral degree), she doesn’t take anyone’s sh*t (just ask Jake Tapper), and she’s been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ people since even before her husband became the highest-ranking U.S. government official to publicly support same-sex marriage in 2012.
In 2009, Dr. Biden received a standing ovation while speaking before the GLSEN’s Respect Awards in New York City. During her speech, she talked about making schools safer for all students, particularly LGBTQ youths. She spoke at the awards again in 2017.
In 2011, she gave remarks at PFLAG’s 2011 National Convention, where she encouraged the room to continue working to change hearts and minds.
And in 2018, she introduced her husband at the Human Rights Campaign’s annual dinner in Washington, D.C., where she talked briefly about the Biden Foundation’s commitment to LGBTQ equality.
More recently, Dr. Biden has been meeting with LGBTQ groups and communities on behalf of the Biden campaign.
In January, she hosted a happy hour event at a gay bar in Des Moines (back when we could still go to bars). In March, she spoke to members of the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus. And in April, she held an online happy hour with LGBTQ leaders from across the country that included a musical performance by Cyndi Lauper.
Dr. Biden’s Instagram page, which has over 500,000 followers, is also filled with nods to gay culture.

Yep, it’s official. We’ve just decided. Jill Biden is the modern day version of a gay icon that Melania Trump wishes she could be.

we want a First Lady that cares about issues important to people’s equality and access. the wife of a president is an extension of the head of this country. Dr Biden would excel at that role should her husband win the election.

Regardless of what side you are rooting for we should be angry that once again the winner will prove just as pathetic as the other (well, in the case of Trump atrocious is a better word). I love Biden but the problem is plain as day, the man is simply too old for the daily stress involved in that job. When he told Trump to shut up he looked more like a resident of a senior living facility arguing with another at breakfast than a man who is going to be able to handle terrorist around the world and rioting in the streets here in America. As we’ve all seen, Trump will simply change the channel and lay claim no one told him about what was going on. Neither one of them are fit to run a country and Biden looks ready for a stroke at any minute. As to be expected Trump showed his ignorance and acted an ass but sadly Biden showed his age and everyone saw it. Its all left up to Kamala to prove to the world she can handle the job because if she doesn’t I think Biden is going to lose.

For those not aware or not paying attention, jill biden’s not a doctor. I’m talking about the important kind, a medical doctor, the kind that could help you of you are ill or save your life. Good ole jill’s got a phd in education, in other words a fancy name for a teacher This fact was conveniently left out the first joey time ran for vice president making the people of America think she was so damned special. Jill Biden may not be a medical doctor as you claim. However, earning a masters in education and going through all the steps to earn your doctorate is not an easy task. And, anyone doing all that work rightly, and proudly, should be honored with the title of Doctor. Do you have a masters degree in wine making? I fail to see how Melania is an icon to anyone at all. The only positive character reference I ever read was from her hairdresser. To be frank, I think you need more than that. She will probably go down in history as the least likeable First Lady ever. After a few months of Jill Biden she will be totally forgotten even by the Trump Cult.
She is little more than a high maintenance gold digger and all round fraud. The only thing I could say in her favour is that she never wanted to be First Lady anyway, so the story goes. However I think she is also an opportunist second only to her husband. Maybe she did want it. Maybe in the end there is nothing good to say about her.
