Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore, make some room. There’s some life left in Big and Little Edie Beales yet — drag life, that is. RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon and San Francisco drag phenom Peaches Christ will head an original-ish, drag-driven musical interpretation of the classic, imminently quotable 1975 documentary as Lil’ Jinkxy and Peaches Christ as Big Peachy, respectively, in Return to Grey Gardens.
In the new redo, written and directed by Peaches Christ, the audience is transported 40 years into the future for a peek into the lives of an aging drag mother and her bitter drag daughter who continue to perform for an empty house. The one-night-only event (April 5 at L.A.’s Wilshire Ebell Theatre) will also feature appearances by Thomas Dekker (All About Evil) as Jerry and L.A. drag monster Squeaky Blonde as, well, herself. Come adorned in your “best costumes for today” and don’t head out when the curtain comes down, for immediately following the show, audience members may submit themselves onstage for a review in the Either Edie Costume Contest.
