Whoopi Goldberg couldn’t hate on Mel Gibson because she knows him personally and lets the rageaholic hang out around her kids. Now Jodie Foster — after telling More magazines month before the actor’s latest slur-filled voicemails leaked that Gibson is the “easiest, nicest person I’ve ever worked with…The second I met him, I said, ‘I will love this man for the rest of my life'” — is sticking to her friendship with Amerca’s Most Hated Actor-Writer-Producer-Director.
“When you love a friend, you don’t abandon them when they are struggling,” Foster says of Gibson now. “Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and The Beaver is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment.”
It’s easy for folks to hate on Gibson, because well, really. But with Foster coming to his defense, or at least not abandoning Gibson in his dark time of need, is the lesbian actress going to face any backlash? Or can we all give her pass for standing by a fellow rageaholic?
I think I see a romantic threeway in the future, between Gibson, Foster, and Randy Rainbow.

Typical hollywood. If you are inside their circle what you do to others is irrelevent. It is the same reason that they all come out to defend Polanski every time his name comes out in the press.
Why should Foster care whether Mel Gibson is anti-gay, or abusive to women? She is a celeb, therefore doesn’t consider herslef a lesbian, or a woman…just a celeb, and that is something different entirely to her.
Fitz
If Jodi Foster gets gay bashed, I will stand there watching and eating popcorn.

I abhor Mel as much as the next guy, but I honestly have to say I’m proud of Jodie here. She obviously sees something in him we don’t and he’s not going to get any better without positive influences and support. I don’t think she’s giving him a pass, I just think she knows nothing good comes from leaving him to suffer alone.

Hey Jodie: Fuck You.
•The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation criticizes Mel Gibson for anti-gay comments and asks for an apology. Gibson: “I’ll apologize when hell freezes over. They can fuck off.”
What a pathetic miserable crunt. She never has been able to have the courage to utter the so very obvious words “I am Gay” and she continutes to defend a reprehensive hatefull hatefull homophobe……….
Hilarious
Actors really do defend other actors no matter what they do.
I mean if you listen to Whoopi on the view she goes from intelligent to stupid in 60 seconds any time a topic about an actor or celeb showing their ass comes up.
They seem to think they’re above the rest of us little people. They can break laws, shit on the walls, and wreak havoc…but be sure if any of us do the same they want and expect us to pay.
I’m so over actor’s opinions. They should just sit and look pretty on a screen and shut the fuck up.

@Marcus M.:
So what if nothing good comes from having him suffer alone. She wasn’t saying that he feels bad, or that he is having trouble. She is saying that he is a great guy, and therefore advocating for the type of person he is, and what he did. Her nasty recently closeted ass should be ashamed of herself.
ewe
apparently he treats women better than men because they tend to stick by him despite all this rage. I don’t know. I don’t really care. He should just stop drinking. He is a full blown practicing alcoholic and underneath all that is probably his own fathers anger too.

Jodie stands by her friends and wants to help them……you’re right Queerty…how “Awful” of her…..
Soupy
I think that if it were a long term friend of mine, I would assume that there was some mental problems involved and would hopefully, try and help.
Marcus M.
@Cam:
Except she DID say he was struggling. Mel has a disease and the more people that turn their backs on him, the worse he’s going to get. I hope for him that he has a strong support system that’s giving him reason to recover. I’m not saying his appalling homophobia and racism is completely forgivable, but he clearly needs help. And even though Jodie isn’t publicly out, he’d have to be blind not to know. And if Jodie’s one of the few people to stand by him, I’d hope that maybe that would change his mind just a little bit.

I didn’t know that showing compassion for someone is wrong? We don’t know them, and we don’t know their relationship, so I would think that it’s wrong of us to make false assumptions. I believe that we should treat those who don’t always agree with us, and who may say some pretty horrific things, the compassion and empathy they deserve. They may never reciprocate but, that’s okay. Peace. Love. Understanding. You don’t have to shun someone who’s a racist, or a homophobe, you have to open up the discussion, whether they hear it or not, oh well.
Sug Night
Hey, she’s not eactly a role model herself, living in the closet for years, so who cares what she thinks?
Jessica
Jodie I am so disappointed with you.
Joe
Great Jodi, you be his friend. Just don’t expect us to be.

To those of you who are holding out for some sort of awakening of any kind of awakening to occur in Mad Max’s scrambled cranium. Remember this is a guy who is so outraged at the “liberal policies” of the catholic church that he spends over a million dollars to errect his own church and have services conducted in latin which the church abanoned decades ago seems pretty much beyond any kind of help…….
Kellie
Jodie: NOT ONE “dark moment”, rather decades of abuse against gays, jews, women, and more. Do you think your core fans are racist, sexist, anti-semite men who have moments of manipulative charm? Or, maybe women & gays who willingly supported you during your own decades of closeted phobias? I’m so disappointed in you. A real woman friend to Mel would read him a riot act, not play codependent. He never takes responsibility. Can’t you find a way to promote this film, & keep some integrity too?
scott ny'er
@PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS: Yeah, I think people really aren’t aware of how awful Mel Gibson’s rants are. And what a big hypocrite he is.
That said, I suppose if I had a very good friend who I found out was an ass like Mel, I would have a hard time ending the friendship. It would be some deep, hard thinking on my part.
Cam
@Marcus M.:
He doesn’t have a disease, he is an abusive asshole. It is irrelevent whether or not he gets better. She is supporting his behavior. By saying that he is a great guy, she is ignoring his actual behavior. She is a terrible person.
Lance Rockland
Well, now I will boycott HER movies too.
KJ
This is a class act on Jodie’s part, and I am sure that she full well knows the implications of supporting Gibson. Mel is ill – full stop. It doesn’t make what he’s done right, but as one who has had loved ones slip into mental illness and addiction, I can fully understand Jodie supporting Mel in hopes that he one day returns to health. One can’t make that happen, but that doesn’t mean you give up hope. I have had to be that friend and loved one for others, and I hope should I ever need it, another will be that friend for me.
the crustybastard
I think the fact that she’s going to star in child-rapist Roman Polanski’s next film is vastly more offensive.
BlogShag
@Hilarious: If you were really over them you wouldn’t support their work. They do nothing for society except entertain, however people idolize and worship them which is disgusting and sick
als
good one mel, you are a champ for keeping to your ways!
she is a champ for not taking it to heart knowing him
everything else doesnt matter the truth is he is 100% right in everything opinionated
