Just Because Eminem Raps About ‘Faggots’ Doesn’t Mean Parents Should Let Kids Listen To It

“It’s your job to parent them. If you’re the parent, be the parent,” Eminem says about America’s stellar child-rearers letting their kids listen to his gay bashing music. In an interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, the resurrected rapper says he uses words like “faggot” because “the scene that I came up in, that word was thrown around so much. ‘Faggot’ was thrown around constantly to each other other in battling.” Does that mean, asks Anderson, he doesn’t like gay people? “No.” (He says otherwise in his actual lyrics.) So how come Em was attacked by groups like GLAAD for his language choice? Perhaps, he says, “the color of my skin.”
