Kalamazoo’s Bold Inclusion of Ts in Anti-Discrimination Fight

Oh, snap! Kalamazoo, Michigan’s “Yes On 1856” campaign went uttered the word that dare not speak its name: “transgender.” One Kalamazoo’s first television ad, which supports passage of the city’s non-discrimination bill (and has to fight misleading tactics like this), isn’t just including the easy-to-swallow gay neighbors everyone has, but transgender ones too. And that is excellent. You might not think it’s such a big deal to include the Ts on an “equality for all” marketing push. But transgender folks remain the “scary ones,” and are easier for conservatives to attack, and particularly in Kalamazoo are the face of that “bathroom ordinance” fight.
