“With the whole Oscars thing, there was a big gap between what I thought the problem was versus what the problem really was.
I got ten years where I made sure not to joke or play in the way that I did back then because it was a problem. I don’t care if you’re gay or not gay. I’m a people person. I’m going to love you regardless.
It wasn’t until close friends like Wanda Sykes, Lee Daniels and Ellen talked to me and explained what they didn’t hear me say that I understood. Then I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, I did f*ck up.’”Kevin Hart speaking to Men’s Health about the controversy surrounding the 2019 Oscars.

Someone explained the problem to Ellen?

Lmao…Look, Kevin, i’m done with you. He knew what he was saying and is now attempting to insult our intelligence. This is his attempt to clean up his image because he is loosing money somewhere. LOL..boy bye!

Kevin, the day your phone stops ringing is the day you worry about things you did but can’t change. Any celebrity worth their fees should have sense enough to know that you don’t put your thoughts in cyberspace where they can be snatched out of thin air and used against you. When you ask to play in someones backyard you MUST play by their rules. Denzel Washington is an actor that comes off to me as very homophobic but you do not see him saying anything that comes back to haunt him. A video of you stoned out of your mind at a football game is online where you clearly know you are being filmed but you don’t give one damn and continue on with your antics. You’ve got a drinking and drug problem that you need to address. Yes, I said drugs even though alcohol is present in the video. You are too street like to be a stranger to drugs in my opinion.

I hate to say it but I think that fishy car crash in which he nearly lost his life woke him up in a way the Oscar cancelation gig never would or his gay buddies like Ellen never could.

I think Hart did mess up and his humor was very explicitly homophobic for way longer than it should have been. I mean, the entire premise of Get Hard was a bunch of tired gay jokes, and really insensitive to anyone who’s been to prison as well. Why are we okay with making light of rape just because it happens to men in prison? We don’t make as light of women being raped in prison. Is there some kind of glee at the thought of “bad” men being sexually emasculated? Is it a collective violent justice fetish?
At the same time I kind of wonder if “Cancel Culture” is morphing into kind of visceral reaction against visibly wealthy celebrities, because of a growing resentment of the monied class. Even though the most successful celebrities don’t even have a fraction of the wealth owned by mega-corporation CEOs, like Michael Bloomberg, Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch, just to name a few.

And still no apology.

Kevin Hart is a grown man. I think he was hit in his wallet and surprise: Jesus smacked hims on his head and now he gets it.
Nothing worse than a black man discriminating and stating he doesn’t get it.

He apologized. Several times. The problem is he wants to be over it. I say own your shit. You did it. Never tire of talking about it or if you do and people get pissed cause you don’t want to talk about it anymore——then deal with the fallout. Enough with the victim shit.
