[Kim Davis is] the lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky. Don’t even say her name in this house… all those people holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they’re fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are. I was raised a Republican, but I just can’t imagine supporting a party that doesn’t support women’s basic rights. It’s 2015 and gay people can get married and we think that we’ve come so far, so, yay! But have we? I don’t want to stay quiet about that stuff.”
— Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence discussing her fellow native Kentuckian, noted marriage equality opponent Kim Davis in an interview with Vogue

Women are the sleeping giant. (Sorry, Brian.)

She knows them, that’s what is so great. This attack is coming from one of their own.

Christians have made me embarrassed to say I’m from America.
Vegas Tearoom
Really? You would have thought that Kentucky not voting for Native Son Al Gore in 2000 and Kentucky throwing the entire PLANET into subsequent misery would be enough for ANYONE from Kentucky to be embarrassed for FUCKING ETERNITY!!! Seriously.
Gail Adams Thomas
Every state has its idiots. Kentucky is so much more than that tacky homophobe!
Nick Grillo
Kim Davis has made me embarrassed to say I am also A human being.
SeeingAll
Depends where in Kentucky. The Lexington equestrian crowd is about as sophisticated as anyone from Manhattan or Beverly Hills.

This is why I love Queerty:

@SeeingAll:
If you consider long white gloves and an MRS. Degree from Bellarmine University the height of sophistication.
SeeingAll
@Cam: Way more than that. I guess you wouldn’t know.
Hermes
@Vegas Tearoom: Er Al Gore was from TN.
Hermes
@SeeingAll: I’ve known some of them through Duplicate Bridge – they also tend to be considerably more liberal.

I guess Pastor James Manning should make me say “I’m embarrassed to be from New York.”

Hermes and SeeingAll, if these nice guys in this exclusive club (Put me among fools and I shall be king) are as you say, do they not see how destructive inaction is? Unless a voting block that is easily lead is ideal for candidates that rely on rancor and divisiveness to win elections. It may be greed and a firm grip on power that keeps them from advocating for us. Oh well. We”ll work around it. We always do. That’s the beauty of being unconstrained in our application of knowledge. This ought to be embraced by these capitalists, yet, no. Oppression is easier, until it’s not.

@1EqualityUSA: Speaking for myself (not Hermes) I never said they were “nice”. Just that we’re talking about Kentucky people who hang with everyone from Argentinian polo players to European royals.
1EqualityUSA
SeeingAll, pardon me, I read your comment with a queer eye. I thought you meant gay, or ok with others being gay. If they are gay and in a position to be influential, refusing to lend their voices, then they are rats.

@1EqualityUSA: Well…that’s a whole other debate ( relevant to lots of wealthy groups all around the U.S., not just Kentucky wealth). And I can’t confidently debate the subject because I’m not a member of that Lexington crowd, just well-aware of them.
1EqualityUSA
SeeingAll, Do you think that they, who travel in these circles, will become turned off to the Rebiblicans and leave them to dry in the wind of their own making?
SeeingAll
@1EqualityUSA: I think the subject is not on the radar of a lot of the blueblood types. But generally those who travel in those circles don’t have much to do with “hicks” whether the hicks are Republicans or Democrat Baptists.
zooby
Yet we have gay republicans… And gay republicans backing Trump (even worse).
1EqualityUSA
Please clarify what you are saying. What is a “hick” to you? Are you saying that the high altitude’ers are above the tendrils of politics? Are there non-hicks in politics? Which politicians are non-hicks? Are there non-hicks on the Supreme Court? If you have an opinion about the justices, I would be interested. I’m having a nice day, dorking about on the computer. My cat snores.
SeeingAll
@1EqualityUSA: A “hick” is generally considered an unsophisticated ignorant country-bumpkin, right ? Are the high altituders above the tendrils of politics ? Not at all, but I think the Kim Davis saga wasn’t the foremost political matter on their minds, because they don’t see it as really affecting anything. They HAVE lives. Are there non-hicks in politics ? Well…yeah. There’s a whole variety of different types of people in politics. The other questions I got no opinion on !!!!
1EqualityUSA
“blueblood types.” If they are not bluebloods, then all the money and toys will not change them from the polished rubes that they are. Money doesn’t make the man. I believe it’s a spiritual wealth that speaks a different language. Imports. Go figure. Being caught up in the world is not necessarily sophisticated. It’s rather ordinary.
SeeingAll
@1EqualityUSA: you’d change your mind if you had one of their mint juleps where the ice is actually imported from antarctica.

Though, if you think about it, who wants mummified eskimos floating around in a drink? This may be the mummy talking, but, just a thought..don’y tell anyone, but I’d be willing to bet that thar’s gold in them glaciers. If one were to search the soil with metal detectors, after those pesky glaciers finally melt…..mint juleps for life.
SeeingAll
@1EqualityUSA: LOL. Mummified eskimos (!). I’ll try not to think of that one. I do sort of agree that gays are too money-hungry/status-conscious, though, but…I’m sure some will tell me that’s a trickle-down effect of homophobia.

@Brian: And like Kentucky (from bluebloods to the hayseeds and everyone in between) cares what some dope in showbiz thinks.

Theres that Rabid Bitches name again!Thought we all agreed if it remained unmentionable SHE would disapear?
Joe
I respect J. Law so much for speaking out. However, he should never be ashamed of being from Kentucky. Kim Davis is a bad apple in a field of apple trees. Davis speaks with a pitched forked tongue. She is now a “nobody” who lives her life of embarrassment of her own un-Christian like past. She is no longer on tips of everyone’s tongue. Her 15 minutes of hate fame are done.
Cam
@SeeingAll:
Wow, 12 posts defending people in Kentucky,
Seems over the top, but then again, your main goal was to get people off the subject of the bigot Kim Davis, so Mission accomplished I guess.
Gary Hecklinger
I would be too!!
1EqualityUSA
Cam, Kim Davis is superfluous, the real story is that women are speaking out. That’s what I meant about sleeping giant. If there are circles of wealthy people, silent about equality, and gay, they are rats. If big business turns on the Republican brand, refusing to be associated with a party, so hijacked by extremists nutters, the GOP may be on the outside, looking in, with hands pressed against the glass. To see a Republican woman leave the GOP is refreshing. The actor left because Republicans do not support women’s rights. If big business people (or wealthy Kentuckians drinking mint juleps with shaved antarctic ice) finally decide the the Republicans were useless to them, they might brush the GOP lint off. It sure seems that Republicans are doing everything in their power to stay relevant. If SeeingAll has been in close proximity to what he refers to as bluebloods, rubes, it would be interesting to glean motivation for their silence. It turns out the lad has no idea about their sexual identity. I contend that the GOP is going to starting emitting odors and that big business will drop them off into the obscurity bin for at least 90 years. I have to study now. Queerty is so much more fun.
SeeingAll
@Cam: I know. AND I like Joan Osborne too.
