When The Onion launched its website in 1996, internet snark hadn’t even been invented yet. But you could easily argue that their brand of satirical irreverence had a direct influence on web media, late night news comedy and certainly Queerty.
Over the years, The Onion has found ways of covering breaking news or zeitgeist topics in a unique, “tongue firmly planted in cheek but I still have something to say, damn it” sort of way.
And as the mainstreaming of gay rights accelerated from the 2000’s on, they’ve found ways to cover LGBT issues that have made us bust out in stitches.
