Lady Gaga Debuts Artwork For New Single, Teases “Artpop” Release

Remember Lady Gaga?

After canceling the final leg of her Born This Way Ball Tour and falling into a gaping pit of silence, the woman poised to take over the world in 2011 is fresh out of hip surgery and ready to give it another try.

It feels like it’s been years since we’ve heard a fresh beat from the Haus of Gaga, but the long-awaited arrival of Artpop is finally here. The artist’s third studio album won’t hit shelves until November 11, but the first track, “Applause”, will debut on August 19. Gaga shared the news with fans on Twitter early this morning:

The image will serve as the single artwork for “Applause”, which Gaga told Women’s Wear Daily is inspired by onstage leakage:

“When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest.”

This woman is a diehard artist (pompously pronounced “ar-teest”), so it comes as no surprise that the new septum piercing she’s sporting is symbolic of Artpop. There’s no telling if the audio in the clip documenting her piercing is Artpop material, but it doesn’t make the process any less painful to watch:
