“Well, you know, you never know what’s going to happen. But at the end of the day, he knows that he’s the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast. I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognized and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition.”Lady Gaga speaking to the Los Angeles Times about Bradley Cooper’s Best Director Oscar snub.

Even though Oscar is a joke nowadays, Oscar voters still can distinguish between professional directors and talentless director-wannabes, good for them.

Apparently you can’t though.

Your statement makes ZERO sense. If you’re going to critique, try to make sense.

At some point people will figure out that most of the voters in these contests actually do not see the movies.

While that may be true for the awards, nominations on done by peers (Actors nominate actors, directors nominate directors and so on). While its impossible to see every film, people who do nominations are well aware of who is giving their best within their categories. Thats why its not a joke when people say “it’s an honor just be to nominated.” because you have been selected by your peers, not the whole academy.

After watching this movie I have to say I am surprised it is receiving as many nominations as it is. It was a good movie but not an Oscar-winning movie and Gaga, while giving what is probably her personal best performance to date, is still not up to the same caliber as more experienced actresses. As for Cooper, his acting was great, much better than hers, but as a director, it was a capable effort but not necessarily Oscar worthy.

I am beginning to wonder if the Academy Awards Oscar show will even exist in another five years. No one wants to host it and its selection of movies is becoming so lackluster its now like who even cares. I loved black panther and just about all the superhero movies and a few non superhero movies but overall I felt I saw nothing Oscar worthy like the old days. I do think the visual effects in the 3D version of Aquaman was overlooked. The movie took place underwater and they did a damn good job with the effects.

As long as only 5 nominees are allowed in all categories except Best Picture, nobody should be victimized as being snubbed because they didn’t make one of the 5.

The Oscars are usually hit or miss. Sometimes a truly great movie like Moonlight, Ordinary People, The Deer Hunter, On the Waterfront, or Midnight Cowboy wins Best Picture; other times middling films like Chicago, Million Dollar Baby or Argo wins; and other times, weak to absolute garbage like Shakespeare in Love, Dances with Wolves, or Crash wins. Meanwhile, truly original, moving and groundbreaking films like Do the Right Thing, Blue Velvet, Vertigo, Dr. Strangelove, Z, The Last Picture Show, etc. get passed over, ignored or nominated for anything but Best Picture. Usually with the acting and other awards there’s a bit more justice, depending on the year. The best film I saw last year, Sorry to Bother You, wasn’t nominated for Best Picture or anything Oscars, even Best Original Screenplay. You could have an all star series made up films they’ve overlooked or whose significance they’ve missed. I loved Black Panther despite its flaws. I don’t think it’s a Best Picture film though.
