It all began innocently enough; just your average promotional interview.
On October 21, Lady Gaga made an appearance on Apple Music’s Beats 1 show, where DJ Zane told Gaga: “There is another artist who has lived a very parallel existence based on this story, which I’m sure you can relate to.”
“You know Madonna tells a very similar story… overprotective father… ‘Papa Don’t Preach’… you know what I mean?”
As Attitude reports, that’s when things took an awkward turn.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Madonna and I are very different,” Gaga replied. “Just saying. We’re very different.”
I wouldn’t make that comparison at all and I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna, she’s a nice lady, and she’s had a fantastic huge career, biggest pop star of all time.
I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.
There is spontaneity to my work. I allow myself to fail. I allow myself to break. I’m not afraid of my flaws.”

She also stated that her style isn’t “just rehearsing over and over again to put on a show.”
And after emphasizing that she didn’t mean disrespect in any way, she said:
I just will not be compared to anyone anymore I am who the f–k I am and this is me. My life story is my life story, just like yours is. The thing is we all express things in different ways, but my rebellion at my father for him being angry with me, that has ended. It’s like finally I can bite back.”
Twitter went feral regarding the comments:

Lady Gaga just left a hilarious reply making a reference to Madonna's "Bedtime story" to a fan. ??? pic.twitter.com/AAkCfpTbJ5

Lady Gaga is a real musician and a performer extraordinaire. Madonna is a poser musician, but a great performer.
— Dan Birch (@Mabolzich) October 21, 2016
Gaga shouldn't have said that about Madonna honestly. She's right, people should stop making the comparison, but what she said was wrong.
— Lisanne (@LisanneCM) October 21, 2016
I take nothing away from Gaga's talent but her music does nothing for me. I could be wrong but Madonna has done ALL.OF.THIS. ?
— Remy LeBeau (@ThereGoTerry) October 21, 2016
Madonna lacks talent?….Lady Gaga lacks respect for that comment, Madonna a walking goddess.

@ohmadonnaa You are right. I'm done. It's that damn interview Gaga gave. Makes me pissed. Focus back on @Madonna The True artist!

People are saying Lady Gaga threw shade at Madonna, but shade takes creativity, which Gaga doesn't have ?… Now bitch THAT'S shade

That clip is the first time I have seen Gaga without some costume or three inches of makeup and now I can see why she wears all that crap.

The harder she defends herself and image as being entirely unique and her own, the less anyone buys it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gaga. I love Madonna. But… please, get a grip. You’re both mega pop artists/entertainers, not Jesus. K?

Dude, is anyone tracking the widespread DDOS affecting all of these sites? This shit is unreal

Time for the two collaborate, vape some weed ladies and drop a slamming dance song, I will buy it.

There would be no Bette or Madonna without Barbra and no Gaga without all 3 so she should be a little more respectful. Yes she and Madonna are Italian, blonde and assertive but they are different artistically (can you imagine Madonna singing The Sound of Music?). Madonna is more about sexuality like Mae West. Her music is simple but sometimes less can be more.

They both probably steal others’ ideas and make them their own but what can you do.

Madonna and Lady Gaga have the same formula. They are formula-driven performers. Their formula is what made them money. Women are rewarded for following a successful formula.
Their formula is this: change hairstyles regularly, do lurid photo-shoots, claim to be bisexual or do girl-girl stunts, claim to be an empowered woman…the list is quite lengthy. It’s a formula made by male executives, and designed partly to prop up the sleazy straight guy fantasy.
There is nothing remotely subversive in what Madonna and Lady Gaga have done. Any gay guy who thinks they are “fierce women” is probably in a state of trans and identifies more as a woman (with its associated privileges) than as a man.
If a male performer tried to follow the same formula, he’d be laughed at and certainly would not be as commercially successful. Thus, it’s also a sexist formula.

@Brian: Have you ever heard of Prince or Michael Jackson?

Downloaded songs from Lady Gaga’s 2016 album on Internet-most songs like 1 million reasons sounds country. If you like country music, then that’s fine. Country music isn’t my type. I don’t agree with Lady Gaga’s pro-gay views, but I like some Lady Gaga songs with 2013 Artpop being catchy with Sexx Dreams , Manicure, Donatella & G.U.Y. (Girl Under You). Lady Gaga’s (Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta) best years were 2009 to 2014.

Oh look, another queer hater on Queerty. You should have simply said “God hates fags” instead of discussing your music preferences like you’re having a chatty conversation over coffee.
Yes, really nice meeting you too. Thanks for stopping by.

@Brian: David Bowie. Nuff said.

To be fair, Madonna has thrown enough shade her way to make up a pod of whales, for years now. So what goes around comes around.
That said, I like Madonna’s music and don’t care much for Lady Gaga’s.
