The former boy band member and failed astronaut addressed the controversy surrounding The Bachelor star Juan Pablo Galavis and the comments he made about gay people last week in an interview with TV Page.
“I don’t hate him at all,” Bass said of the man who said gay people are “perverted” and “too intense” for national television. “I still think he’s cute.”
Galavis later issued an apology and blamed his poor English skills for the “confusion.” Bass defended his insensitivity and revealed that he “actually loves” Galavis in an interview with the AP this week.
“When you grow up in a place like [Venezuela], you get brainwashed into thinking that way, you know, you can’t help what you grow up with,” he said. “I mean, I grew up in Mississippi, so I know how people can get brainwashed into thinking really, really awful things. So hopefully, he will learn from this and get educated.”
We know the feeling, Lance. When you grow up listening to great music by bands like *NSYNC, you get brainwashed into supporting their career revival attempts later in life. Hopefully someday we’ll learn from this too.
