A lesbian waitress at a restaurant in New Jersey claims she was denied a tip because of her sexual orientation.
Dayna Morales is a former U.S. Marine who now works as a server at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Yesterday, she served a family of four. Their bill came to a grand total of $93.55. After the family had left, Morales went to collect her tip. That’s when she noticed the tip line on the receipt had been scratched out. In its place was a note that read:
“sorry I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle & the way you live your life.”
Morales expressed her outrage over the incident in an email to the LGBT blog Have A Gay Day. The email, later posted to the blog’s Facebook page, read:
“NEVER in a million years did I think this would happen. Not only was it a family with two kids, but as I introduced myself and tell them my name is Dayna – the mom proceeds to look at me and say, ‘Oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us!'”
Since sharing her story less than a day ago, the post has already received over 1,100 shares and nearly 4,000 likes, with many people expressing support for Morales.
One person wrote: “As a member of the heterosexual community, I beg your forgiveness for these ignorant people.”
Another person said: “I am sorry you went through that Dayna. Thank you for protecting and serving all. Even the ones who do not deserve it.”
Sadly, this is not the first report of a member from the LGBT community being denied a tip at work. Just a few weeks ago, a similar thing happened to a gay waiter at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Kansas.

Sadly, this appears to prove that arrogance and ignorance ooze out from the conservative crowd everywhere on the planet. As we dined at Carraba’s in Overland Park, KS and left a generous tip for the gay waiter there, so I also hope all decent people chip in a generous tip for this dear gal at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Let these twits know that they ain’t gonna win!

Didn’t we see this exact same story on this site, but it was a guy? Sounds like more fiction by Queerty!

If someone stiffed a server who was wearing a cross pendant because they didn’t agree with the server’s chosen lifestyle, imagine the furor that would erupt.
What I can’t figure out is why the family didn’t tell Morales or the manager upfront that they wanted a different server. Oh, right: they would have had no excuse to not tip in that case.

Also, this idiot could have saved himself or herself some obnoxiously uncomfortable sideways writing there by noting that “how you live your life” is summed up in the word “lifestyle”. I mean, that’s kinda the definition there, you redundant dumbass. Also the waitress, should have gone all Waiting on them after that Dan comment. I’m surprised they felt comfortable eating the food. I would have done some shit to that food. And then just smiled wickedly as I served. Enjoy!

We no longer have to pay for services provided by people whose lifestyles we disagree with? Terrific!

@Dixie Rect: Your ignorance and arrogance is showing… again! My friend and I indeed visited Carrabba’s on Metcalf and 103rd in Overland Park, KS and personally met the young man who was harassed by the radical religious rag-asses. The story was indeed true as I’m sure this Queerty story is. (You don’t get out much in public, do you, Dix?)

Cheap bastards!! If you don’t want to tip people, don’t go out to eat! I don’t give a flying fuvk what you think about my ‘lifestyle’ and how much you can apparently tell about ‘how i live my life’ by just looking at me- THIS is why servers need to have their gratuity automatically added onto the check!
I hope the waitress knows their names and can call them out for the ignorant, rude fuvks that they are.

@Dixie Rect: Don’t be a jerk!

@Dakotahgeo:
I get out a lot love, but I can tell you I will not be visiting Overland Park, KS ever.
Dakotahgeo
@Dixie Rect: And we are/will be forever grateful!

Something tells me this information is being passed around by a member of NOM or like typed organization. It’s almost identical to the one that happened out west.

@Dixie Rect: I just saw this story on NBC News. That doesn’t prove it’s true, but it clearly wasn’t created by Queerty. And you surely shouldn’t be surprised that there is more than one homophobic ass in the country, you homophobic ass.
tricky ricky
@Dixie Rect: it happened again. it has happened before.

Can you imagine the fire storm that would ensue if an LGBT server refused to serve someone because of their religious beliefs?
Dixie Rect
@Dakotahgeo: Who are YOU to speak for ‘ALL’? STFU and get lost.

everybody has a right to choose. this is a personal choice. who can argue with that?
Dakotahgeo
@Dixie Rect: Typical non-response. Try educating yourself, Dumbo.

Your precious Dayna lied, it was a hoax. As usual, I was right. I accept all of your apologies.
