There’s a misconception that professional athletes have “perfect bodies,” and by definition are perfectly content in their own skin. And hey, there are plenty of jaw-droppingly gorgeous athletes, so it makes sense.

Turns out they’re more like the rest of us, though. Body shape is just one factor in constructing our nuanced identities, and hearing these professional LGBT athletes speak candidly about their own body experience, we’re reminded that there are no one-size-fits-alls in life.

Athletes get to exercise for a living. I doubt they can truly emphasize with someone who’s stuck behind a desk 40+ hours a week, struggling to find time to go to the gym or cook healthy foods. Their lifestyles are wrapped around having a fit body—in practicality, they get paid to have a hot body.

you are full of hot air ridings. most of these people, esp in women’s sports are working out four to 6 hours a day by the time they are 9. they just don’t suddenly have it at the age u sat down at a desk. and literally in a 1/2 second an injury can occur that ends their career..at 18 or 19,man or woman. that happen to you in your chair much? ya they were showin the famous ones but the want to be famous struggle…just like u do sir. every day for different reasons. get to exercise…how silly.

Perfection is over-rated

@Derek Perron: Well said Derek, one must be comfortable with himself and his own body, there is no right and wrong.
Want to work out, great, don’t want to? Just as great, or better.
What is wrong is trying to live up to other people imaginary standards.

I don’t have a perfect body – there is no such thing – but maintaining my fitness is a high priority and I fit my crazy work schedule around it. I’ve always considered it part of my job both professionally and as a partner. It’s an investment but one that pays huge dividends. Being fit and trim is like having money in the bank.
Another motivation is I spend a fortune on clothes, most of which have been tailored to within an inch of their life. If I wanna continue wearin’ that shit, I gotta keep it together. It’s vanity, sure, but it’s just one of my weird little things.
The one thing I don’t do is pretend that, “Oh, this is just me.” No no, I make no secret of the fact that very little of my appearance would happen without a great deal of effort.

Ridings is entirely right and your answer to his post is totally beside the point.
And you start your post by insulting him. Whats wrong with you?

@Rob Ridings: Talk about being full of shit.
People don’t find time to exercise? No… rather, people are too lazy to exercise. And believe me I work a lot too… yet I still find time to fit in exercise and healthy eating habits. Exercise sometimes is time consuming, but to blame a 40 hour job on bad eating habits is disgusting irresponsiblity and is a key reason why America is so fat. Start by replacing sweets with fruits and vegetables. Nothing too hard. You don’t even need to cook it. Go eat a carrot instead of potato chips.

Too bad Olympic bobsledder/rugby athlete Simon Dunn wasn’t featured in this video. No worries though, he has his own YouTube channel and asks what fan would like to be seen in his uploads (besides his shirtless selfies)…Yum.

@Giancarlo85: You are such a know-it-all
It can be hard to squeeze in gym time when you work full-time and have a family.

@Giancarlo85:
I’m kind of in agreement with this. People think that you have to find hours of time to squeeze in exercise. If you can’t then break it up into 30 minute increments 4 times a week. Most people can find 30 minutes of spare time if you sit down and plan accordingly. Either wake up 30 minutes earlier or carve out the time after you get home. I don’t have kids but I know plenty of people who do and who have really busy schedules who carve out the time to exercise. It can be done.
