“I have to always stay ready – street ready, I always say. I have to keep my makeup on and keep my hair done. Like, when I’m in LA – I’ve told you about it – if it’s going to earthquake, if we get an earthquake, I’m not running out in the street looking like you look now.”— Dolly Parton to RuPaul during a sit-down interview for Marie Claire. We’re sure Ru looked fantastic, by the way, but Dolly takes her look very seriously.

I don’t… I don’t think you guys know what a “read” is. LOL!
Donston
Seriously though. I read the quote several times trying to figure out how it was a “read”.

It sounds like she’s calling out his lack of professionalism.
I don’t think he even knows how to do his own makeup.

That was only semi shady, good nature ribbing that they both likely giggled over. Very typical of Dolly. But it doesn’t fit anyone’s definition of a “read”.

@Catholicslutbox
Are you for real? She was saying she would look like Ru because he was interviewing her out of drag. She was saying if she didn’t do her makeup she’d look like him.

Every statue honoring a racist Confederate traitor in Tennessee should be taken down and a statue put up honoring somebody who actually did something for that state. Dolly!

I love how serious people get when their standard definition of “read” isn’t met. Also for a community that strives for acceptance and unity in the face of phobias and stereotypes, just how much shade is acceptable? What is the threshold from light hearted shade to willful denigration? And exactly what qualifies as being “read?”
Lighten up. How many times are articles on Queerty and that of other sites titled strictly as click-bait?

I thought it was a fun and playful read.
