Lil Nas X becomes first out gay man to win Country Music Award

At just 20 years old, Lil Nas X has already left a mark on the music industry, and on Wednesday he became the first out gay performer to win a Country Music Association Award.

He shared the honor with collaborator Billy Ray Cyrus in the “Musical Event of the Year” category for their remix of “Old Town Road.” The song incredibly spent 20 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lil Nax X expressed his excitement on Twitter:

This isn’t the first time Lil Nas X has made awards show history. Over the summer he won “Song of the Year” at the MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first out gay man to win in the category.

The singer came out in a series of Tweets in July.
